Hello. I've got a 1980 xj650 that I love to death, but it's a real piece of work. I've had to boost it every time I've started it, so I got fed up and bought a new battery, charged her up, put her in, and problem solved.... for 2 days. Now I'm back to boosting.
Does anyone have any idea where I need to start trouble shooting this?

With the bike running check the voltage between battery terminals with a volt meter. With the bike running at around 2500 rpm you should be getting about 14volts. If not, your charging system has a problem. I would suggest you check the brushes.

I had the same problem. Turns out on my bike one of the wires had pulled out of the it's harness next to the TCI. Couldnt hurt to check your connections before replacing your charging system.
