WELL.. If your replacing it... pair of bolt cutters will do the job in a snap!
otherwise, i think you have to pull the tensioner off it..

why cant you just take the old ring to a machine shop and have them
    measure it ?

I could do that, it is free right? im out of money on this. And would i have to get new oversized or special rings if i get my cylinder walls honed?

You should take your cylinder block to the shop to get measured, not the rings (you will have the block off to get the rings out anyway).

And it might cost you a six pack of beer.

You do NOT order new pistons or rings until the determination of what the cylinder bore size is/or is going to be (if it needs to be bored). THEN you order the appropriate pistons and rings. AND ONLY THEN DO YOU BORE.

The actual bore size has to be relative to the actual piston size of the actual pistons you receive.....even new pistons vary in their size by a few thousanths, and since the piston-to-cylinder clearance is a critical measurement, that is why you don't bore UNTIL you have the exact pistons that you'll be using in your hands, and measured!

If your machinist recommends anything but the above sequence of events, take your motor and run before he touches it!!!

I agree wholeheartedly with chacal on this one. I've seen horrible things happen to a few friend's car engines from their engine builders trying to take shortcuts....

edit: as for the cam chain, if you've found the master link, you could just break it with a chain breaker, then attach your new chain to the TRAILING end of the old chain, pull the old chain out (thereby feeding the new chain through), break old chain off new chain, replace master link into new chain, go on with life =)

I found myself a nice metal cutting saw and just cut the chain off when i go to re assmeble the engine iam going to loosen the cahin all the way and unbolt the cams and move the gear to get the chain off then reverse it to get it on again.

As far as rings iam going to bring it to a machine shop and have them tell me what i need of course they will say i need a million dollars of shit. if i need anything more than an hone and my ring size from them, then im screwing. The motor ran awsome until the bottom end went. you can still see swirl marks on the bore.

If I still had hone marks at the top of the bore I'd be tempted to leave well enough alone. If it was done correctly last time it should still be good.

There are two bolts that hold the gear to the cam shaft. Un bolt those and you can slip the gear off, releasing the tension on the cam chain. You can then take it off without breaking anything. Make sure the engine is at TDC when you do this.

If you can wait (i.e. havn't cut it yet..) I can scan the pages from the manual. send me an email when you get this.
