If you look closley at some of them you can see small swirl marks up and down the jug which is the reson they are up here to have the "experts" tell me if they are good . the bike ran great with them.

Camaras old but the oil on the lense didnt help haha

    Tyler:

Go back and delete all those pictures.
We can't tell if a Top End is good or bad by looking at pictures.

The Final Analysis of whether the Top End is good or bad comes after doing a good deal of Measurements and Inspections.
The Cylinders need to be Measured to determine if they are within Specs for a Standard Set of Rings or if an Over-sized Set of Rings is necessary.

The Pistons need to be Outside Mic'-ed to determine if they are Stock or an Over-sized Piston.

The Head has to be looked at with a strong magnifying glass ... looking for cracks ... or, sent-out to a Machine Shop for a process called "Magna-Fluxing".
Magna-fluxing the Head will detect the slightest imperfection if there is a crack in that Aluminum Head.

Grab a Workshop Manual and conduct several of the tests YOU can do with a Feeler Gauge and one of the Compression Rings.

There's nothing we can definitively say about the Block and Head without pouring-over them with Measurement Tools, a Straight Edge, Inside and Outside Mic's ... plus, removing the Valves to examine the condition of the Valve Faces and Seats.

There's really nothing to be said except for the quality of the photographs.
And the truth is ... some of the pictures are blurry and not in focus.

Right NOW, you need to get your hands on a Manual.
The Tests, techniques and tolerances are all fully explained in the Engine Section of the Factory Book and the Haynes Manual.

Re: WOULD you put this TOPEND on your bike?ALOT OF PICTURES*

Rick's right. My engine looked a lot worse than that before I rebuilt it, but looks don't matter nearly as much as measurements. Otherwise you're just flying blind. Would be pointless to go out and spend a couple of hundred on a set of rings on cylinders you've re-honed if the bores are too large and you get blow-by and needed oversized rings after all.

I agree with Rick. The pics are worthless for any sort of GUESS at a diagnosis. Delete the pics for the sake of dial-up users.

Do you have autoshop in school yet? Or maybe you could get mom and dad to spring for a small engine class at the locl technical college? and some tools??? Wouldnt that be a sweet Merry Christmas??

High School shop class.. Awesome idea JeepSteve. That's your cheapest route and I forgot all about them. Usually they do work for free or ultra cheap. Only deal with that is that you usually have to wait a bit of time for them to get around to it, but if it's not something that needs to be done right now then that would be the option I chose.

I never had any shop class ever. But I've worked on cars since I could hold a wrench. I've had jobs where I learned to use the tools, including measuring and whatnot.
You have tons of questions and they arent all easily answered.

Oooooo maybe you could apply to be a gopher at the local machine shops and try to get under a technicians wings. Tractors, cars, small motors...
