i rebuilt the carbs and thought i had done everything right
it runs good untill the 5 k mark all thru the gears
i am running straight carbs no filter or boots ( so i can remove quickly)
i have 132 jets ( they were already in there)
its starts right up no choke etc.
i did mess with the floats and the mixture screws
plugs arent sooty yet i ride it around the block a few times but it just sputters when i get to to 5 k
    any help please?

Engine is designed to run with the air box attached. Hence when you change to pods you need to rejet. That could be part of your problem.

You are taking a chance at sucking dirt into the engine without any filters.

warning: I've never done any tuning what-so-ever, so this is most likely worthless

get some new plugs. Using the new plugs, see if the bike is running lean or rich. That could give you a clue as to what needs to be done.

I wonder if it isn't getting enough fuel at 5k.

Chop the plugs at 5k (find a safe stretch of road, hit the kill switch, coast to a stop, and pull the plugs). I think you will find that they will be showing white in color. If you've removed the airbox, you are running leaner, and will want to try a couple of things. You could raise the carb needles to richen out the mids, or you could go up a jet size.

I agree with the sputtering, that it may just be characteristic of the rpm range and not having an airbox or filters. Your leg position or a sidewind could mess with carburetion. Not saying you shouldn't go for the looks you are seeking, but that's the tradeoff of easy carb work.
