In the near future I am planning to move to Mexico. The altitude is over 5,000 ft. I am in the process of rebuilding the carbs on my XJ650, Would you change the original jets or leave them the same? I also have a set of carbs that came off a XJ750 can these carbs replace the original 650 carbs. Not sure when I am moving so if I adjust for the altitude what can I expect how the motor will run at a altitude of around 700 ft above sea level? Thanks for any input. grm

if anything your bike will run rich at the altitude(unless I have that backwards) THe higher up the less dense the air the less fuel required. Clean and adjust to your current suroundings if anything you will be a little rich and do no harm until you can swap them out.

If you fly Delta you will need to change jets in Atlanta, if AA you'll need to change in Dallas.
As far as the bike, I'd wait to get to where I'd normally reside and adjust the carbs with a manometer to tune accurately.
It shouldn't be necessary to re-jet for altitude. You'll have to do what most EFI engines do on their own.
I drove my truck to Colorado and it ran like @ss in the mountains (ABSOLUTELY starved for air). Once I turned it off/on and the computer made the necessary "adjustments" it ran like a champ.

I've got a jet chart for my bmw, so take this with a grain of salt. It looks like the is a 2 jet size for such an altitude bump for beemers. I'd guess that you will need to do at least a jet size bump down to leaner. Keep in mind though, that if you're going from a colder climate to a hotter climate, you may be going richer yet.

If you're going to be in a place that has access to parts, I'd wait until you can start the bike up at your destination. If not, you may want to take along the next one or two step leaner jets.

why waste the money, they will only steal your biike there the second you turn your back on it... if you dont chain it to a building with a battleship anchor chain and 12 military grade padlocks ever time its out of your sight, it wont last 30 days before its gone...
