When I change up gear (or down) after I let out the clutch I find the engine revs away without increacing speed imediatly so to me that sounds like the clutch is slipping.

Now looked at the Hyanes manual and this is a job I want to do myself replacing the clutch, so what tips or advice can you give me before I even undo a bolt.

Should I replace the steel plate, friction plate, the springs or should I do the whole lot whilst im there?

    Cheers :D

Depending on the mileage, degree of wear and how long you've been riding with it slipping, the answer is...inconclusive. BEST WAY: Pull it apart; clean and inspect everything; and then decide. Plan on friction plates and springs at the very least (and a new clutch cover gasket of course.) You'll need a new tab washer ONLY if you pull the hub and/or basket. The steel plates, if not burnt blue (visibly obvious) or warped (also easily checked) should be ok. You might want to clean them up a bit with Scotchbrite is all. Springs are cheap and collapse over time, I would replace if the bike has any kind of miles on it. The basket and hub should be fine as long as not horribly "notched" from the plates digging into them. If wear there is minor, it can be smoothed with emory cloth. If the basket or hub ARE seriously worn, find a good used clutch from a wrecker or eBay, but still replace the friction plates and springs.

Friction plates, springs, bolts, washers, gasket. I stripped a few bolts pulling my cover off, plan for that. You may need to replace a few bearings.

It should have taken a little more than an hour, but with the stripped bolts/screws it took me about 8hours. On the upside I did end up with some new tools.

Sorry, the 550's run the release shaft directly in the case, so I neglected to mention the release shaft bearings and oil seal. Kd, he's in central Scotland, so I doubt Chacal's prices and part numbers are gonna help much.

I can get parts here easily enough just seen them for sale as seperate parts or a complete kit. I will look before I orer the parts. Looks like the prices are much the same in the states as over here not much diference.
