    Newb here!

just recently put a deposit on an '85 maxim xj700 that a friend's neighbor is selling. it will be my first bike and I can't wait to get it paid off!

a little background... I'm 27 and live in Williamsport, PA. Own two cars that I love to modify and drive (02 cavalier and an 02 wrx). I grew up around bikes as my dad used to ride husquavarna's in enduro events on the east coast. My grandfather also used to ride (street, not dirt) and I used to go on rides with him(motorcylce miracle tour and the like) on his yamaha route 66.

anyways, I'm looking forward to getting the bike and riding and this seems like a great source for information on maintenance and modding! (i've been lurking... mwahahaha  ) I'll make sure to get pics posted once I take delivery!

    Thanks!

    thanks for the warm welcome!

i only rode the bike a bit but it didn't seem to skip in 2nd and my buddy took it for a longer ride and said it's in great running order! (the suspension is a bit soft but i'll have the winter months to get everything sorted out)

the husky was my dad's bike. he had a early - mid 90's 250 (don't remember the exact model) that he used to race. eventually swapped out the 250 for a 500 automatic. unfortunately, shortly after the 500 was in it, the 1st gear clutch basket disintegrated and he sold the bike shortly after...

Welcome to one of the best resources you will find on your new ride.

You're a ways away, but there are a couple of us down by Allentown that have 85s and 86 XJs

We normally have a carb clinic first weekend in August, and there is rumors of a spring event next year closer to Harrisburg (still a ride for you though).

awesome! allentown is only a few hours away from here... don't think that'd be too bad. harrisburg is about an hour and a half...

carb clinic sounds great! i've been reading up a bit on here with the syncing and such but having some people that know what they are doing will be a MAJOR plus!!
