Hello one and all. I scored a 700 Maxim this past weekend (shout out to my buddy Jim! Thanks for keeping me in mind). Sadly, the VW is acting up again (this means I'm not keeping the 700) and I need to raise funds for parts to get SWMBO's car on the road. The bike is only missing the driver's seat, the fuel tank, the battery, the airbox and carbs, and the master cylinder. Everything else is up for grabs. E-mail me with requests and I will do my best to get you photos (bike is in storage at the moment, a bit of a jaunt). I got this thing without a title but the dealership said they ran the VIN and it was clear (not a vehicle of interest to the CHP). We spun up the motor while I was looking it over so it isn't seized but who knows what shape the tranny is in. I will open things up to check them out for you if you like and will post a compression test later.

Thanks for helping a brother out, now let's get this thing sold off to a good home!

I think it would have been a shorter Post if you had just listed the things that bike WASN'T missing!
Now, you are in the Bike Breaking Business, too!

    Good luck.
I hope the engine has ideal compression so you can get top buck!

I would be interested in the seat lock and key. And the handlebars, how does the exhaust system look?

Tell me about it. I used to live there.

Say, MiCarl was thinking of heading out here... why don't you swing by his place and plan on a road trip? ;)

Hey Robert, was this an X or an air-cooled model?

    It is an air-cooled unit.
The exhaust is in good shape, no dings and such. Doesn't appear to have rotted out (gee, wonder if being from So Cal has anything to do with that). Handle bars and seat lock are present.
Ideally it would be good to see it sold to someone interested in breathing life into her but time is not something I have lots of so I'll entertain the thought of parting it out.
I'll try to have photos up by this weekend.

Well, it just doesn't seem that there is any interest in the bike as a whole so I don't suppose I have too many options. I've got it in storage and access is limited. So if you fellas can wait a tad, I can pick this thing apart and post photos. Anyone know how to estimate shipping on things like this short of taking the parts to the post office?
I am looking at how difficult swapping the exhaust over to my 81 650 Max would be. Maybe even the motor. Not sure if I'll have the time at this point.
Parts will be sold on an "as requested" basis.
Looks like Pygmy jumped up first but didn't ask for anything in particular.
Shooter is interested in the tranny; Switz wants the seat lock, handle bars, and exhaust; and Chacal brings up the bottom of the list at the moment.
    To be continued...

If you are parting out I could use the air box chrome (left side mainly, but will take both sides if needed.

    Sorry Switz,
I'm elbow-deep in the wife's car which has been down 2 months. I've got just this weekend to get'er done (took a month to get a high pressure steering hose from a source other than stealership). 3 classes this semester and 20 hours of overtime this past two weeks. My plate is full until the car is done... priorities keep getting in the way of tearing this thing apart. My apologies for the delay.

    Hey Robert,

I do have a couple of particulars that I'd like to get my hands on.

    Things I'd want for sure:

RHS and LHS engine covers (the ones that go over the timing thing and the oil pump and say YAMAHA on them)

Things I'd want maybe, depending on cost:

The unobtainium covers that go just under the seats
    The airbox chrome covers
The mufflers or maybe the entire exhaust system
The helmet lock (although it probably makes sense to let chacal get his hands on both the main switch and the helmet lock so that he has a set with the same key)
The brake light (plastic housing and lens)

I'd love to hear an update when you get a chance...thanks!

    Pygmy,
I have had zero time for the last three weekends. I should have held off posting this FS ad. Got the car fixed only to have the new steering rack blow it's right seal two days later. Back to the waiting for parts game...
The covers you seek might be there, I'll have to check (when I get time that is), no airbox parts at all folks, exhaust system is intact but you're 5th in line. Helmet lock is there, no key. And the brake light is fine. I've go no time to pull parts for the next few weeks so I'm letting you all know it'll be a while before I can get at it. Please bear with me here. I'll post just as soon as my life gets back to normal. Thanks.

There is no "Normal" in Life to return too.

The clocks don't get turned-back much more than one whole hour ... and, that's but for one day. Sixty minutes gained if you buy into the notion.

Sometimes you can recharge your Batteries by just letting things slide.
But, as one of the Oldest Bumper Sticker's around reminds us all:

"The Hurrier You Go; The Behinder You Get"

Before anyone else jumps on it, I'd like the headlight (the whole assembly if possible). Take your time on reply's, I've still got 5 weeks of school left before I can start to tear into my XS.
