Looking to replace the stock tach and speedo on my XJ650R. I'd like simple, small,cable-driven gauges if possible. I'm having some difficulty finding anything. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

    Thanks!

Mechanical gauges are going to be a bear to find since most manufactures are moving to the digital age (witness Dakota, VDO, etc...). You might find luck with Stewart Warner or VDO, but I'm not taking any bets.

Check out Old Bike Barn - Mini Speedo - Might be what yu're looking for.

Or, if what is posted on the above link is true about japanese bikes using speedos with the same RPM range, you could buy gauges from MikeXS.com - Scroll down past the mirrors... They have several options that are really affordable and some that even have indicator lights built in (High Beam, Neutral, Oil Pressure, Signal, etc...)

Not sure about the ones from MikesXS.com, but they are really cheap, and even with the indicator lights. So, I am probably going to order a mini speedometer from there and give it a shot before long.

    Hope that helps.

Cary, thanks for the heads up on those tachs' and spedos' :)

I'm going to go out on a limb and order the chrome, white faced one with the indicator lights (Part #03-0744) and see what I can do about getting to work with my 750.

If you don't mind - repost with how it works out on your bike or PM me - I'd love to know before I order one... And I have to set aside a little more cash before my next round of parts get ordered.

    Good luck!

Will do! I'll likely have these well before my new bars (still can't find the risers i need) but I'll take er' apart and see how compatable the wiring is.

Oh, I'm sure you'll have to get creative with the wiring... I too, will be switching bars on my Maxim 550. Going to go for some drag bars or superbike style... As well as a smaller, bottom-mount headlight, and ditching the factory gauges for a single speedo...

Just want to clean up the front of the bike.

You could also try J. C. Whitney I saw some there also.

Sounds like we have some of the same plans. I've got the bars i want picked out (27" drag bars) and a 7" round headlight to replace that rectangular beast that looks like it was lifted from my 82 oldsmobile. The smaller front headlamp will be going as well, along with the "knight rider" style gague cluster.

I found a small cafe style fairing that (according to old bike barn, i called em to check) can be mounted to my XJ once i get the round light installed.

All for not my bike died in the uptown area of Minneapolis tonite and I have no clue why. Off to the shop in the morning...
