pod filters?

    i have a 82 xj750 if i put pod filters on it do i have to jet the carbs?

    Most common answer is yes. Pods allow too much airflow for stock jets. Only way to know for sure is to try it and see. If your plugs are white then you are too lean.

    At least one person on here has done it w/o re-jetting (Not sure who, it is in his sig).

    You may be able to "tune around" it if you have a stock exhaust. If you're running an aftermarket (and therefore less restrictive) exhaust system the short answer is yes. If you have the stock airbox and it is intact, you should consider yourself lucky. It's necessary to pull the motor to replace (replace, not remove) the airbox so pods are usually the solution if the airbox has been altered or removed. You will honestly get the absolute best all-around performance out of your XJ if it is in completely stock configuration, both intake and exhaust, and properly TUNED. Not just carbs, valves adjusted too.

    well i do have the air box. i guess i will just leave it alone no need to start a new prob.

    Valve clearances should be checked and any problems resolved prior to trying to tune with or without PODs. XJs use a cam follower bucket with a shim in the top. As the valve seat and valve wear the clearance gets tighter.
