Just wondering if I need sealer on the pan and side cover gaskets or should they be put on dry?

If any sealer is needed what kind and on what gasket?

    Thanks

Some guys won't put the Sump back without using one of the "Officially Recommended" Sealants: YAMABOND-3 (or 4).

Same for doing the Side Covers.

I Seal the Clutch Cover Gasket to the Cover and spread the Sealant along the inside of the Gasket along the Cover to prevent a leak.
I add Sealant to the Side Cover Gasket surface to mate with the Engine.

After the Cover is on and the Sealant cures ... I use an X-acto Tool to cut through the Sealant and peel it away leaving the cover sealed with no extra Sealant spoiling the appearances of the joined cases.

permatex hi-tack is my favorite. it basically glues the gasket to the piece, and when all is dried you can take the bolts out and run the bike with just the gasket holding the cases on, and it still wont leak. the downside is that if you ever need to scrape the gasket off, you are going to be at it for some time.

I use Permatex hi-tack too, generally only on one side, gluing the gasket to the cover. Then I smear MMO or silicone grease or gear oil on the other side, depending on what's being sealed. On the sump I'd probably use it on both sides of the gasket.

This stuff is tops for paper gaskets and metal-metal.
