Wouldn't you just assume I was already a member here? Haha. After all, I do list this site on my homepage as one I'm part of. :)

    Thanks for the fun thread.

I love wrenching and riding and try to do as much of it as I possibly can. Just finished a 6 month cross country trek from Boston to LA. Did some amazing riding all over the country. Left Boston with 3 bikes, landed on the west coast with just one, but I just bought a CX500 a couple days ago and tossed it in a storage unit for my next project. Heh.

Will eventually have a good chronicle going on http://travel.evanfell.com along with hundreds of pics.

You are welcome to use my carb cleaning article on this site (I have lots more on the way), please just clearly note me as the author and link back to my page if you would :).

    I'm a web developer.

Wasn't the CX a V twin, that sat with the cylinders perpendicular to the frame?

Yep, a transversely (some people argue over this term) twin. It's an 80 degree motor so isn't perpendicular to the frame like the opposed cylinder BMW Boxer motors . . .and technically the CX is only a single backbone frame with no cradle rails. . . . . but yes.

The CX500 is a great choice to restore. I sold my GL 500 Interstate (same fairing as the Goldwing for the same year, hard side luggage, and a matching trunk) nearly 5 years ago to a friend of mine. I was planning Thanksgiving approx 120 miles from the buddy I sold it to. Current plan, stop by, pick up my old ride and bring her back home!

All that boat metal sure means comfortable riding this time of year. Be nice to have another ride in order to refit the Maxim this winter.

I will certainly follow the restoration on line.

I have three 1982 GL 500 Silver Wing Interstates. The motors were built to withstand a turbo, so they are bulletproof. One complaint- - at 70 MPH the motor is at 6,500 RPM and that just doesn't feel right.

In 4 years of my abuse, I had a seal let go in the rear housing, and trashed the hypoid gears.

I agree with your rpm v. groundspeed observation. I went from the goldwing slow and torquey to the silverwing fast and tweakey and the difference in rpm at freeway speed is huge.

My xj650 runs at about 4100 - 4200 at 65 and that seems fast when you're going down the road. Both are a lot of fun to ride!

The Rose City Motorcyle Club sponsors two early spring rides open to the public. The Oregon 250 is a poker run and is held in cold and wet April. The 500 is run on the Saturday before Mothers Day Sunday. It's usually freakin' cold but can be warm, you just never know. It will be nice to have the option of a full dresser or an open bike depending on weather.
