With the economy on everyones plate in front of us at the table. Are you thinking of selling your bike? Or are you thinking maybe getting rid of that other prized motor driven item you may own? My wife and I are wondering what the group of XJ Bike owners are thinking.

Unfortunately it is the worst time of the year for anyone to sell a bike. We are talking maybe 1/2 to 2/3 of the springtime value?

I myself am very fortunate in that the company I work for (curtainwall) is booked solid thru the middle of 2010 the wife on the other hand could loose her job by spring.

I plan to spend some money on my XJ this winter.... I hope everyone that is facing hard times will be able to hold on until the economy rebounds sometime next year.

    Good luck to all

Selling the bike would not be a good idea right now because:
    1) I would not get enough for it to help much.
    2) No one is spending any money right now, tough to sell luxury items.
    3) I would miss my bike terribly, and I would become a bitter, angry old man, and my wife would give up and leave me in frustration.

I have two classic bikes to sell when spring times comes around. I want to get more toys:)
I don't think the targeted market for classics/vintage cycles are affected by the economy that much, they are still willing to buy a classic, they are not looking for economy transportation like a scooter.
Wait till spring if you can.
If anyone is interested what I have to sell, PM me.

I'm pulling the XJ off insurance, the weather is still good in southern Utah, but I don't need 2 bikes insured this time of year. Plus the X needs some attention as does my other project bike. I put up a post about my winter project and the next day I got laid off. I'm not in finacial trouble but I won't be buying any parts... Sooooo not selling not building but still doing some rididing
    happy turkey day

I wouldn't sell any of my small collection simply because they are ALL worth a lot more to ME than to anyone else. Too much time and effort invested.

Fortunately, I'm kinda one of those pay as you go type people...so my only debt is my mortgage (only have one credit card and pay it off at the end of each month). Neither my wife nor I are in danger of losing our jobs. Raises might be a little leaner for a while. I'm fortunate to live in an area that's still growing. I wouldn't make enough off my bike anyway to really make it worth selling just to pay bills.

On this Thanksgiving Day I have a lot to be thankful for.

I'm not selling any of mine either. I see around here that people are trying to sell off whatever they can. Mostly that items they have loans on. Harley's, Boats, Campers, Ect. The Paper is full of them.

I'm guessing that gas prices will go back up and the XJ's will give us good transportation for those times we don't have to haul much.

i hope that gas prices and the economy will lead to more small and/or more experianced(older!) bike on the road not as toys but as cheaper transportation what i save in gas during the summer months more than makes up for the measly $162.00 per year i pay for insurance and there is nothing wrong with a few less cages on the road when your riding

    I'm more with 650ss.
I bought the XJ to combat $4.00 PLUS dollar gas prices.
So to sell it would defeat the purpose in buying it.
I didn't buy it to have a vintage bike.
It was what I could afford at $425, running good, in need of some attention.
Paid for it's self this year alone.

I will sell a kidney before I let this bike go. There is nothing special about the bike to anyone else, but it is very special to me!! I was my Dad's. The one he taught me to ride on and the one I am teaching my daughter to ride on. Dad passed away in June just about 1 week before I got the bike back on the road.

Purely sentimental reasons, but the bike stays!!

As aloways, I think there a a couple of ways of looking at the economy and it's affect on bike owners. Over the past 8 months or so, I have seen a large number of olders bikes on the road. My guess is that as gas prices went through the roof, a lot of riders dusted off bikes that have been sitting around for a long time. I have to say I can't help but smile when I see a Maxim or a Seca rolling through town. And I enjoy seeing an ocassional CB900 Custom, or Kawasaki 454 LTD. So on one hand, the bad economy has been good for bikers because it forced us to work on our bikes and get them back on the road.

Conversely, as times get harder, I think there will be a segment of riders that will look to sell as a means to make ends meet. For some, motorcycles are a luxury. For others, the only method of transportation. In the end, there always has to be a seller and a buyer, so some rider's loss will be another rider's gain.

    This is a no brainer

    1. The bike is paid for therefore it costs me nothing to sit on .

    2. The bike is easy on gas sometime twice as economical as a car on gasoline

The only bad thing is ROTTEN WEATHER , SNOW, COLD ,RAIN , HAIL

keep it its well worth it lets not mention the guys here are great when it come to helping a felloe biker new or old.
