OK, here's the deal. Through a well-meaning but not very knowledgeable eBay seller, I ended up with what appears to be an NOS tank badge that I don't need. You can HAVE IT on ONE CONDITION: It HAS to be for YOUR BIKE. No fair taking it if it doesn't match your bike.

Here's what I do know: It's NOT the same as the screw-on badges that come on the 550 Seca (or the 650 Maxim ones that are almost the same.) It's a self-adhesive badge, for the LEFT side, ever so slightly taller than the ones that screw on, and the gold is a bit "yellower." Appears to be OEM, has the same die-cut adhesive tape on it as I've seen on other OEM Yamaha badges. Midnight somethingorother, maybe? I honestly don't know, and didn't want to pry up the adhesive to find the molded in part number.

Pictures: Here is the "unknown" badge next to one from my 550 Seca.

Here is the mystery badge itself, front and back. (Same badge, different images I didn't rescale the one to match the other.)

If this badge is ACTUALLY FOR YOUR BIKE, it's yours, pay shipping.

Please don't take it if it doesn't match your bike.

    Merry Christmas---Fitz

bigfitz, that's very generous of you. It looks exactly like the badges that came off the tank of my 750 (tape and all).

He's in the Christmas spirit folks. Be honest:)

Yeah I have no idea. It was supposed to be an NOS 550 emblem. It wasn't but the guy had no idea and made good. NOS badges are rare and I want to see it end up with someone who needs it. I was poking thru the fiches and there are a few bikes that have stick-on badges. I can measure the height if anybody needs further help with ID.

Looks identical to mine, but mine measure exactly 5" across the top. 1/2" less than yours, curious.

The part number for the '82 650 Seca is 3X0-24161-20-00 but it is the same for both sides. The badge I have is clearly marked "L" the adhesive is cut out to expose the molded-in mark. So I still don't know. It's interesting that it is longer than the ones on the 750, but that's why I photographed it next to the tape. Someone with a 650 Seca wanna measure theirs?

The one I have is cast with an "R" on the back. It could be a different year or maybe a 900? I love a good mystery.

hey fitz, i looked on ebay, and if you look at your seca emblem and the mystery one, the black plastic around the letters is curved on yours, and square on the mystery one, well the one on ebay looks JUST like urs, though no screw holes, and im not sure of the length, methinks its an aftermarket replace ment made to just throw on, why dont you remove the film, get the part number, and throw it on, i dont think that will hurt the glue....

This is another, many-years-0ld, thread. Regardless, the stick-on badge was used on the 650 Seca, the 750 maxim, the 750 Seca, , the 750rl, the 900rk, and I'm sure others, too...

I do have a set of golf cart ones if anyone ever want to see pics of what those really look like.
