what model is my maxim?

    i am pretty sure its the 550, but anyway, here is a description: it has the curved rime front and rear, and also is chain driven. it has the same guages from what i have seen on the computer as the 550. , um....not sure what else to tell for description., can you help me.

    How many exhaust pipes on this bike?Also,does it have a deeply stepped seat (Maxim),or a nearly flat seat (Seca)?

    Chain drive means it's a 550. The manufacture date is on a label on the steering head; the "short" version of the VIN is stamped on a plate on top of the clutch housing on the right rear side of the motor. You have a Maxim; the chain drive 550's were made for three model years: '81 (H) '82 (J) and '83 (K.) All were mechanically identical.

    The XS400 Seca and the XJ900 Seca were also chain driven...

    Xj900 secas are shaft driven as well. The xj900 diversion was chain drive I believe but it was not sold in the us. The only chain driven xj bike on this side of the pond is the 550. There are 400 maxims that are chain drive but they are xs400s.

    Danno, it could be a 400, but all 900's had shaft drive.
    Does it have 2 or 4 pipes???
    The CC's are stamped in the cylinder casting on almost every Japanese bike( if not there, then on the crank case) possibly due to the multi-tier license, so cops in Japan could bust someone on too-big a bike?
