In answer to your original question, thankfully, NO. But you've gone and mucked that up. So I will offer my comment as well, which is... why? I had no idea the V-Max had a cult following.

 

Are you guys kidding? You have never entertained the thought that it might be fun to climb onto a VMax, open the throttle and hang on? I wouldn't buy one but I've always thought they were a neat concept. An upright riding position hot rod.

My point. I was quite surprised to read that Yamaha had produced the things for so long, you just don't see very many of them.

 

I saw one once, riding up and down the main drag of Portage IN, (a Harley Union town), the Harley and sport bike guys scattered. It's just an expensive, single use bike. Dominant stoplight to stoplight urban racer, but can't keep up in the curves. Limited pose value, not practical or fun for long rides.
This new one has been shilled on every mag cover this year, as have a bunch of other big displacement bikes, just on the peak of gas prices. You have to advertise the stuff that's not selling, no need to shill the stuff that sells on it's own.

 

I've owned 2 V Max and totally enjoyed each one. I would buy the new one if there weren't 2 other bikes out there that I want more. Ugly? that my friends is mechanical art in motion, and in motion indeed. The numbers on this bike are amazing. The big problem with this bike is that may not even get the gas milage of your SUV. It is a joy to look at, to sit on, and come spring to take a ride on. I tried to find one to ride this fall but I failed.

It is a monster and it makes no apologies. I think it rocks!

Did I say ugly? I meant to say BUTT ugly! I like the first generation Max,but with all the mismatched shapes,colors,and styling of the new bike make it look like a Transformers toy.

Here here Great Buffalo. They ALL want to ride one. They KNOW they want to ride one. We ALL want to ride one!

As far as looks? Maybe (emphasis on maybe) it is a mis-match of shapes but you know what? It looks different than EVERY other motorcycle out there. The crotch rockets? What's the difference in appearance? Color, name badge, and goofy assed graphics(not all but most).

The VMAX is INSTANTLY recognizable in a crowd.

I mentioned that I wouldn't buy one (I have my sights on a Kawasaki Concours) but it doesn't I wouldn't LOVE to have one!

Personally, I prefer the 1st gen Vmax. That said, I would LOVE to take one of these for a test ride and flog the hell out of it.

However, my personal choice, and this is just me, would be a Raider. I just love the look and at $5K less than a Dyna, which I still would take if somebody was to give me.

I would love to ride one but, that still doesn't make it look any better.
I laughed because I looked at the bike and thought how ugly it was and then read everyone elses response.
Guess I'm not alone.

 

I remember when the original v-max came out. It was an impressive acceleration bike for sure. But, like others here have stated, I haven't seen many on the road compared to the many years it was produced.

The other day I stumbled on an 2009 Triumph cruiser ad. It stated that it had the largest production motor ever. The bike boasts 2,295cc of displacement. Can you say WOW!! 2.3 liters. That's like a small car engine in a bike. Listed as 140 Hp and 140 Torque. Of course a car 2.3 liter would be more powerful from what I've seen.

Still, who really needs a motor that big. Or is it just vanity?

 

I still can't figure out why anyone needs a 4-cylinder bigger than about 600ccs. There's simply no where to realistically use all that power.

 

I agree BigFitz. I was on the website www.bikez.com the other day and even the Honda CBR600 from back in 1995 was rated at 100 HP. And those bikes only weigh around 450 lbs or less. Who needs all that speed. Just asking to get killed if you ask me.

 

The Triumph is a 3 Cylinder !! And amazing that it trumps ALL manufacturers, except Boss Hoss !!

The V-Max makes a statement, and has the muscle to back it up.

My GS1100G weighs in at 540 lbs. and that is allot of steel to roll back and forth as I turn it around in the driveway. I have to use a pine board under my sole, so I don't break the bones in my foot as I push it up on it's center stand.

 

Dont know that I would own it but sure would not mind riding it for a day

 

That new vmax looks sweet. If I magically came into about $20K I would own one. While it may not be the most traditional looking motorcycle on the road, I'd say the technology integrated into the bike is breathtaking to say the least. And to those who say there's no use in having a bike over 600cc. YOU ARE CRAZY! Jump out of the '80s and ride a modern bike, you will certainly change your mind.

 

This way you don't have to drop the clutch at 7000 to get the front wheel off the ground.

It's like Yamaha is just thinking "out-of-the-box" when it came to the V-Max. I guess I can't say it ever caught my eye. Not my cup of tea. I never liked the whole air-scoop on the tank look (which was actually phoney on the earlier models) and still don't like it on the new one, even if it actually works. Infact, they went backwards on the looks dept. with the new one.
I guess if you would want a drag bike for the track right out of the box, it would be the place to start. But now I don't figure many racers go out and buy a race car, they build one. Too bad Yamaha missed the mark on this one. They make alot of good looking bikes, just not this one. It's definetely not for the masses. I don't need to get there that fast anyways!

 

Real men lust after the V-Max, it's 197 hp and its make no apologies statement to the world.

The timid and meek cringe at the thought and take shots from the weeds with their pea shooters.

Not your cup of tea? Fine. I can respect that. But whining about it being too big or being too powerful?...

I certainly hope all those who lament that any beast has more than a hundred hp, or actually wondered out loud what anyone would DO with more, were joking.

This country was forged by MEN for whom a mere 197 hp still isn't enough! Time to hit the weight room, for some of you, i fear. Bikers are SUPPOSED to be bold rebels and hooligans. At least in their hearts. At least just a little bit...

The amazing thing is that it's not only good for the strip. It turns well too. Yes its heavy but an early 80s 650 is heavy too. I can't wait to put my tush on this machine and ride off. Like I said, if it wasn't for a few other demands that I need for a bike it would be in my garage in the spring. The big issue is milage, antitouring and long range comfort. All the major MC rags are praising its assets and its unconventional looks.

They have one at our local dealer here in Asheville N.C. Looks great, I would be afraid to ride it due to its beauty and the weight. :lol:

 

I'm sure they won't be able to keep them on the showroom floor at $17,900 price tag. Who are they trying to kid?
I assume you will be able to buy one of them lost in a warehouse, brand new, all forgotten about in the year 2020 for the collector price of about $70,000 or so. And it will still be UG-A-LEE.
