Unless he was a complete psycho, it's probably going to be easier to repair the harness than to build a new one.

Alternatively, if you can let it sit for a while, these harnesses do come up on eBay pretty often, or you could check the salvage yard network for one.

Any idea what the PO was trying to accomplish?

Your best bet is to get the factory wiring diagram and start tracing wires until you get it right. I know it sounds like a pain in the a$$, but it's about the only way to any relief from the wiring blues. Good luck!

Ah ya...that guy was an idiot if he has positive wires grounded to the frame. He obviously knows nothing about wiring.
No wonder he sold the bike. I he ever would've got it running (long shot) he probably would've had a fire!!! 8O
**On another note, reminds me of a trick I learned by trial and error. I grounded out the side marker lights on my truck to the positive side of the blinkers, so the marker lights blink opposite from the blinkers. There's one wire on each signal light that it will work with, so you have a 50/50 chance of it working the first time. When the blikners are not on, the side marker lights work as usual. It works on some trucks but no all of them. It works on the older Chevys for sure.

Come to think of it, I still have the old 650 Maxim out back with the main wiring harness still intact. If it would work on your bike, I'm not sure? I guess you'd need a wiring diagram to see if it's compatable with your scoot.

? I don't have a clue unless you have the schematic for both bikes and compare them I guess. I don't think there is much difference, except for the computer/monitor if you have that on your bike. The Maxim didn't have the monitor on it, so I assume those wires are not there on my harness.

    Well in that case...
There are a hell of alot of wiring you won't be needing then. I tore the speedo/tach off of mine and cut all those wires that came out (and went into) the computer monitor. That was alot of of stuff that you won't be needing if your bobbing it. I first went with the wiring diagram (color coded wires) and labled all the wires I would be needing, which were the light for the speedometer (1 wires, alot of them share a common ground) signal lights (3 wires) nuetral light (2 wires) headlight (three wires)
So the rest of the wires are cut short and labeled with tape (incase I need them for something in the future) and tucked behind the headlight. I am going to shove them inside the new headlight housing when I get around to it.
I also elliminated all the plastic connectors which makes it a hell of alot easier to relocate the wires and hide them. I spent a one whole day cutting, soldering and heat-shinking all the wires together, and I'm so glad I did it. I can't believe all the crap I had laying on the floor when I got done!

A number of circuits, such as the headlight, tail light, and stop light, go THROUGH the computer, so you'd need to either re-wire those circuits or disconnect the computer to use a non-Seca 750 harness.

If you're going to bob the poor thing (sorry, not a fan of bobbers), then the simpler, no computer, harness would probably be a good choice (I expect you'll be swapping in a simpler instrument cluster as part of the custom work?).
