    im searching ebay for an ignition coil assembly, curious about compatability...

    I have; 81 maxim 650

    Ive found;
    82 seca xj750
    82 xj650 midnight spec
    82 maxim xj650

    I always thought both 81-83 maxim and seca coils are compatible, but some of the info on the ebay sellers site leave out the 81 650 maxim, saying 81-83 secas comatible only with 82-83 maxims.

    Any info appreciated, thanks, Lou

    You can look up the factory numbers on motogrid.com.

    I checked the '81 Maxim 650 coil numbers; they are 4H7-82310-60-00 and 4H7-82320-60-00. Same as the '82 SECA 750.

    Cheers,
    Paul

    What I meant to ask was the compatiblity of the pickup coils, not the ignition coils. I was able to figure it out with the haynes and the motogrid site Paul recommended.

    So for anyone else with the same question, the 80-81 xj650 maxim (g and h model) has a different assembly then the 82-83 xj650/750 maxims and the 81-83 xj650/750 seca.

    The difference is the 80-81 maxim sends two leads (one from each pickup) and two grounds (one from each pickup) to the TCI.

    The others send two leads (one from each pickup), one ground (the two grounds from each pickup are spliced together on the way to the TCI) and a lead from the side switch which prevent starting with the kick stand down.

    Its the lack of a side stand switch on the 80-81 xj650 maxim that makes this assembly different than the rest.

    let me know if this sounds wrong, Lou
