i need new tires since my back tire is pretty bald and both have tire rot. but how do i make sure i'm getting the right one.

current back tire says is a cheng and says 130/90-16
current front tire is a dunlop491 and says mm90-19 61h

i'd like to get matching tires though. now i've seen the chengs that say 130/90-16 but it also has more information (C907 Rear Tube or Tubeless Street Tread Tire (SIS: 5.00/5.10x18"; MS: 130/80H18; RRW: 3.00; LR: 660)

should i worry about the additional info, or am i okay just knowing that it is 130/90-16? also, knowing that i wan both to match, can i assume the front will be the same tire too, and order 2 of the same tires?

any help would be appreciated....i just feel like i am pushing my luck riding on my current tires. Thanks!

Go to the tire shops, at least 2, get opinions & prices, then buy on line, if you want, at least you will know what you want & how much to pay.
Take into account shipping & the fact that the shop will fit free.
    Happy shopping, Wiz.

Chapparalmotorsports.com V inexpensive (likely Cheapest anywhere) prices and FREE shipping to your Door. Cheng Shins?maxis are V cheap tires They work OK but a few ,not many $ more gets you Bridgestone BT45's.
DO howewver get the correct size tires Check with Yamaha Or an Owners Manual before buying anything . Fatter than Factory specified tires WILL make your bike slower... Regardless of what anyone claims.
Fatter tires require wider rims .. period.

I've heard very good things about Avon tires, which is what I plan to grab for the spring (online). The more information (reviews) you can get, the better. And while you can probably get shipping free, do take into account any fitting and balancing prices.

Front and rear tires are not the same, so don't grab two of the same tire.

If you really want to save some money, look into mounting and balancing the tires yourself. It's not that hard, though it does take a little elbow grease and determination. There are some good instructional vids on youtube.

    Shop around.
    Particularly in this economy!

Some places will Mount and Balance your tires if you BUY the new tires from the Dealer.

That means ... If YOU can bring-in your wheels ... so you don't run-up the Labor of having them removed at the Dealer ... you'll save so dough.

There's LOTS of tires to choose from.
    Be HONEST with yourself!

If you NEVER have gone over 100 mph and NEVER will ... you don't need a SPEED Rated Tire and can shop for a Tire that's not so expensive.

Nothing but Dunlop on mine. You only have 2 don't skimp on them. No matter what you buy do like Rick says and shop around you can get some good prices on line.

Southwest Moto Tires in Tucson, AZ is an online motorcycle tire dealer. He's very experienced, honest, fills orders quickly and his tires are often less than other online retailers. I've bought two sets from him. For best all around handling and safety I prefer Dunlop. He carries the major brands.

I agree, I have used them before and was extremly satisfied.
Quick shipping, excelent product selection, and great value.

I spend some money on my tires!! Metzler LaserTecs are my drug of choice :p
They get me higher AND lower than any other.
I drag my foot pegs quite often and love fast sweepers.
If your more conservative I dont see why you couldn't enjoy a cheaper(less sticky) tire or more of a "touring" tire.

I would recommend Dunlop D404's they won't be more than a couple bucks more than the Cheng Shins.

Check your manual for sizes, a 130 rear sounds a bit fat for that bike but because it's a Max, maybe...

Your stock front rim is a 1.85X19, so you need a 3.00X19 or 3.25X19 or 90/90-19 or 100/90-19 front.

OK I went to Chapparalmotorsports.com and when I choose tires I get a list of sponsored links. Do they not sell the tires themselves?

I will need a new rear tire this year so I have been following these conversations closely.

Go to the Barber Shop or a Magazine Store and rip-out the two-page spread for New Tires.
The deals are unbelievable right now.
    Don't forget ... you'll be adding-on Shipping and Handling.
But, you'll wind-up with a new pair of tires for easy money.

Then, you just got to get the Old ones OFF and the NEW Ones ON and Balanced.
There are some crafty threads about Home-brewed tire-jobs and Balancing that make for good reading.
