found a set of rear shocks that look real good, but they are 12.75 eye to eye instead of 12.5, has anyone used shocks that are slightly longer? I figure it will set a bit more weight on the front which would probably help handling, but will they go on easy? FYI my bike is a 82 550 Seca

If it were me I'd just get a set that fits correctly. Good, NEW, rear shocks are not all that expensive.

They are a quarter inch longer with no weight on them, but they may compress to the right height. 1/4 " isn't much difference anyway.
What did they come off? Most people tend to want stronger shocks than stock.

    Nice 12.5" shocks

These look like a pretty good deal.

Not that I'd get too worked up about the 1/4" difference in length with the ones you have; it won't change your ride all that much. I'd be a little more concerned about the spring rate. Too soft and you run the risk of bottoming the suspension, too stiff and you'll end up with a sore back.

1/4 inch is less difference than if you measured the ride height with a 150lb rider and then a 250lb rider. are they preload adjustable? i bet you could easily sag them down to the proper height regardless of the extra 1/4".

end result I am going to go with works performance shocks, and yes those Drag shocks are probably good, but two problems for me, first they are ugly, very good looks for a Harley, not for my bike, I want something more racey. Second they are only preload adjustable. I am getting a set that is at least preload and air adjustable, if money permits I will get compression adjustment, hopefully this will happen in Febuary or March at the latest. One big plus of works performance is you get a performance guaruntee so you can send them back to change the spring rate or valving
