Got new seats and float pins. I cannot keep two of the carbs from sticking open and flooding. I have them set 17.5mm from the bowl body to the top of the float at the end of the float when inverted. (The float tang is resting on the little spring loaded pin at the end of the needle valve without depressing it) Are you supposed to set the float height with the spring loaded pin depressed?

What's the most common cause of pins sticking open? Does the little wire at the end of the pin have to be facing a certain way when you hang it from the tang?

Do floats ever go bad and not float anymore? That's the only thing I haven't tried - seeing if they float in a coffee can full of gas.

yes, if the float is ruptured it will not float, you know like a boat

    1. cause of the pins sticking open is a bur or nick stopping it from sliding
    2. varnished gas
    3. something hitting the float

I heard before about floats going bad. Do the floatability test and if all are ok swap the float needle and the needle assembly to one of the carbs with stable level. Just an idea.

sometimes when the bowls are empty the floats fall so far down the needle valve gets crooked and cant slide up into the valve seat when they fill up
a sharp smack with a plastic or wood tool on the bowl usually frees them up

Yes. On NEW Pins ... You have to eyeball the Geometry. If the Over-wire is CENTERED better ... with the Tang Over-wire on the other side ... then, just flip-flop the wire over to the other side to get the straight -- Up~Down move without any kinking.

Also: Look at the way the FLOAT Assembly's Side-to-Side end play is where the HINGE moves between the two Hinge Pillars.
If there excessive movement causing the Float Pin to have any side/side drift when the Floats are lifted up ... you can get some tiny flat washers (0.015) and put them on the Hinge PIn to act as thrust Washers and keep everything centered!

I know i'm crazy for askin cause I don't even know if the bowl will fit this way But, could you have the floats on upside down? I did it today (caught myself immediately) by accident but just a thought... Good Luck

I had the float pins stick when I rebuilt my carbs. They were dragging in the float where rust had occurred. So I loaded the pin in a dremel tool and dipped it in Mothers aluminum polish. I then honed it out in the float hinge at a low speed. This way both get polished and the floats stopped sticking.
