okay, my xj is missing the speedo cable, I ordered one, but the one that came has a screw on fitting for the speedo like I need but a slide on fit that is held in place with a screw on the wheel, my bike requires a screw on for the wheel side also. What is wrong?

I just double-checked both my Secas to be sure, (in case someone swapped your drive unit, but they didn't) and you have the wrong cable. Should be a threaded collar at both ends.

yeah, that is what thought, but the one I bought is a real OEM NOS and had seca 550 printed on the package, very strange, and all the ones I see on E-bay, here in the usa are like the one I got, the ones from UK are the correct one??////

I'll bet if you order one from chacal it will be correct.

DO NOT trust eBay. It is a wonderful thing, but YOU have to know what you are looking at and NOT trust the seller.

Mis-listings can be a wonderful thing. I got a BRAND NEW NOS 150mph speedo for $20 because the guy had it mis-listed as being for a 750 and everyone LOOKING for a 750 speedo knew that it wasn't and didn't bid. I recognized it as something I could use (it was from a 900 BTW) and got it cheap.

You need to be armed with a PART NUMBER before buying any "NOS" off eBay, and be careful--SCAMS abound. I have found counterfeit parts being passed off as REAL NOS on more than one occasion. Don't assume the part you need is no longer available; Yamaha still carries most of the "consummables" (usually for way too much $$$) and chacal has EVERYTHING at realistic prices.

The part number for a 550 Seca speedo cable is 4G0-83550-00-00 and they are still available from Yamaha as well. No need to go eBay for this, and you'll probably end up spending too much.

Any time I find something on eBay, I double-check the part number and PRICE against Yamaha's fiche AND chacal before bidding. (Obviously, a brand new speedo for $20 is something worth jumping on.)
