Hi, my xj 650 maxim is gettin a big make over after 12 years of reliable service. when i looked at the rear tire, a 130x90x16 i thought: how fat can it realy go. i managed to squeeze a 160 rear into the bike, looks awesome... pictures coming soon!

Wow, pictures would be very interesting. How did you get it to not rub the swingarm? Certain brand 130's already almost rub!

I'm wondering that as well... must have done something differently?

    Waiting for pictures as well.

I just installed a new 130/90/16 on mine this past Saturday and it barely clears. I too would be interested to see the pics.

I think the brand of tire is what made it work. Some tires of the same size, do actually have a different width due to excess rubber over the belts. My Conti-milestones measure around 5.4 inches. I've measured other tires of the same 130/90/16 series and have seen under 5 inches and over 5-1/2 inches.

Yeah, I could see that going with a 140, but a 160 is a pretty significant difference. That's why I said I've seen certain brands (such as the Cheng-Shin) that just BARELY clear the swingarm. Looks pretty righteous though.
