Does anyone know if there are highway pegs/engine guards that are made for my 82 XJ1100? I'm just curious what they run and how they fit.

If anyone has highway pegs or an engine guard, I'd love to see pics too.

    Thanks all!

I actually tried searching first and basically came up with nothing. I didn't really care to much about the engine guard, but the highway pegs sound good. Most people seem to have to "fab" their own set though. I was just wondering if anyone out there made any that would bolt on to my 82 XJ1100.

You don't want the pegs that bolt onto the engine guards? I know you can get hwy pegs that bolt onto the engine guards and they are fairly inexpensive. Engine guards are very useful piece of hardware .

    OK, maybe I'm getting confused.

Engine guards = bars to protect the engine

Highway pegs = foot pegs that allow you to stretch the legs on longer trips.

How am I doing so far?

I was actually just wondering if they made highway pegs for my bike. Are there some out there?

I have to admit I'm confused a bit as well. I understood it that you get the engine guard and then bolt the highway pegs to the engine guard. I don't think I've ever seen highway pegs bolted to the front frame members (which is the only way I can imagine it). Anybody got a pic?

Take a look at the 3rd link I listed above. In there WeAreZilla lists 3 links (one to our Links section) where a member has built his own "Forward Controls". Looking at those pictures you'll notice that it's fairly easy to make Highway Pegs by yourself using his concept. Here is a direct link to the website: http://www.internet.is/einfaldur/Mybike/XJ_footrest.htm

Other then that, I'm not sure if 1100 has the same design or if anyone manufactures this type of highway pegs. Richard suggested few vendors you may want to check.

my friend made a set for his xj750, took a pair of front pegs that he found at the local junk yard, and made a bracket to attach them to the frame where the engine mounts I believe. The only problem he has is they are kinda close to the engine, so he has to be careful when he puts his feet up so as not to burn his legs. If you want I can see if he will take a pic of them.

Let's see if the pic posts. These are California highway bars made by MC Enterprises. They are available from denniskirk.com for $57 or mawonline.com for $42. You can see that the bracket is a piece of cake to fabricate. Chroming would be the big cost. The footpegs which come wiht the brackets are not what I want but others are available from many sources so you could make what you want and then just paint the steel brackets black.
