I have heard that there are years that used tanks that instead of the bracket that is spot welded on, they used stick on emblems so there is no divot to fill. What years used this style tank? I want to use a raw metal tank for my build and clear it, It would be alot easier to find one of these tanks then to fill in with weld the divots in my tank.

I have an '85 Maxim and it had the stick on style tank emblem. I removed them and the tank is smooth and clean.

my 81 seca came with a spare tank from the PO that was this way. Haven't bothered to check the original since it's pretty well trashed.

550's and early 650's had the retainer bars and screwed on badges; Seca 650s, 750s, and later (but I'm not sure when it changed) Maxims had self adhesive badges as did the XJ1100s I believe.

I really want to run a raw steel tank on my bike but I need a newer tank to use then. Anyone have one?

1100 Maxims have screws that hold the badges on.

750 Maxims utilized the stick-on badges, and are about a gallon larger than the 650 Maxim tank. The 1983 750 tank is a direct swap, but the 1982 750 tank has a fuel sending unit and wire (still a direct swap, just a little extra stuff that you don't need).

XJ900's did, too. Gold plated for US models, silver brushed for all others........

Are all the maxim tanks pretty much the same as far as a looks stand point? I really like the look of my 650 tank but I just need it with out the badges.

Alot of people remove the little bracket and fill the sides of the tank with All Metal or have a body shop lead them in. Would look alright. I was thinking about filling in my spare 1100 tank and gettting some custom paint done on it. If I get it doen soon I will post Pics for you to check out.
