Ok the pins on the bike that the seat latches to (at the rear) seem to be worn, this seems to be a stupid problem to have but the only time my seat is really secure is when my big a** is holding it down! even if i do get it to latch properly a little shimmy or shake backwards and it is free again, can those pins be replaced? i like to be able to access under the seat and don't want to add anything that will require tools to remove it , please tell me I'm not the only one who has this problem!

On mine I have to pop it down good then pull back on the latch to get it to fully engage. Originally there was a helmet/seat lock in the grab rail. I restored mine.

The pins on the frame are rather sturdy. Are you sure you don't have an alignment issue somwhere, or a worn/bent hinge?

We're talking about a pretty simple system here. Pins, hooks, springs and braces, hinges on far side and some screws/bolts. Not much to poke around at and see if its bad. Spring loaded hooks so possibly weak/broken springs. Bent hooks. Hooks missing their holes or pins (alignment like big fitz said).

Possibly something preventing it from fully seating in the first place?

no but it seems fine Fitz but the pins are noticably worn i think the po was in the habit of just slaming the seat down to latch it, i even had to repair some wires that got caught in the cross fire! but every thing seems straight

So you are saying that the seat doen't latch down on the back. I assume you can walk up to the bike and just lift the seat off????. The seat has the latch on the bottom with the hooks. Does anything look like its missing?? A picture would be nice if you can put one up here. Thanks.

Is it possible you have the wrong seat?

Check the "laying on their side V" shaped pieces that are welded to the frame and support the hinges. I had one that was bent way down causing the seat to misalign. It wasn't readily noticeable.

Yeah on mine in order for it to stay latched. there is a rod in the helment lock that extends into a hoop on the lever to keep it locked.
