Awhile back I posted a picture of an old Kawi dirt bike. I ended up trading it for a few sets of handlebars and a used tire. I just got home and while looking at the tire I notice that it says 'Front tire fitment'. It is a 130/90/16. Can I use it on the rear?

Supposedly, no. If you used it, you would need to run it backwards, but the threads have already taken a "set" (the theory goes), so it's bad to run it forwards, or backwards, or expect unusually fast wear.

I got a new set of Avon tires with matching tread patterns, but my front had to be mounted "backwards" which looks a bit odd to me.

I would definitely avoid running a front tire on the rear. Not only are the tread patterns different, but front tires seem to have a rounder cross-section. At least that's been my experience.

Best thing might to post it up for sale. Someone on here (maybe even me) might be interested, depending on brand, condition and cost.

Not to get off topic, but why, if you were to mount a front tire on the back would you mount it backwards?? I've never heard that before, and I'm just curious why.

certain tires are designed for front and rear fitment, chen shing makes some i believe. I would not run it one the back if i were you. Just buy a new tire.

It has to do with the way the belts are laid up. The rear gets high torques in acceleration, front gets high torques braking.

The rear tire that was on my 650 had two arrows on it, one for front mounting and one the opposite direction for rear.

TRUE. My Norton has 4.10X19 Dunlop K81 TT100's front AND REAR. But ya know what? They have TWO arrows on them. One is for FRONT mounting rotation, one is for REAR mounting rotation and they point in different directions.
