Spark Plug Preference

    I was just wondering what everyone runs for plugs, gonna get a new set for the weekend because all my starting the bike for tinkering without riding it has taken it's toll on them.
    I just use the NGK BP7ES called out in the book, tried some spendy Platinums once but saw no benefit, never tried the Nippondenso's.
    Opinions?

    I have stuck with the NGKs although my messing around has killed a handful of them...

    my favorite parts shop doesn't carry ngk so i have autolite 63's

    1985 XJ900: recommended plugs are NGK BPR8ES.

    For my short day to day riding to and from work I find that they are a little on the "cool" side as plugs go - they're OK but they tend to have run their course at 6 months tops.

    In cooler weather I go for a slightly "warmer" plug - the NGK BPR6ES - it has a longer node than the 8's. They are good for the short trips I do and last quite a while.

    For summer riding involving regular day trips to the countryside I go for the cooler 8's but for regular day to day city riding I go for the 6's.

    That is a helpful tip, tailoring the heat range to the ride duration. I could probably put a warmer plug in for the rest of the winter when I am basically just starting it up to hear it once a week and slow down the process of fouling the plugs. Thanks.

    I run NGK BP7ES exclusively. I have had excellent performance and life out of them ergo I've never tried anything else (at least not in my bike, cars are a different story).

    General rule of thumb which has worked real well for me for 35+ years -

    Japanese plugs for Japanese cars & bikes
    German plugs for German cars
    American plugs for American cars

    Kinda like it's an ethnic thing. Also have found that the newer platinum plugs often do not do well in older vehicles not specifically made for them and thus they can be a big waste of $$$.

    Simple cheap NGK plugs have always worked the best in old Jap bikes.
