    Hello,

I am dealing with a rattle in my exhaust, and am thinking I may just put on a Mac exhaust, but like many other parts for the XJ750 I am only able to find parts for the XJ700 (due to the US trade restrictions at that time).

The part I am able to find is a 4-2 Mac Performance part 004-1214
    http://www.macperformance.com/store/pro ... uct_ID=642
and it is listed for sale on ebay here:
    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Yamaha-X ... 0004r15918

But before I go ahead with ordering this I have a few hesitations.

    1. It is for the XJ700, and I have the XJ750
    2. The part is listed to be for a 1986/87 - but I wasn't aware they made 87s, only 1985/86s
    3. looking at the picture of the exhaust in the ebay ad, I assume that this system doesn't make use of the collector plate at the bottom of the stock XJ750/XJ700 system. Does this make sense?

I hope these questions don't sound too rudimentary... I've seen some aftermarket exhausts on XJ750s (for example: http://xjbikes.com/Forums/viewtopic/t=9792/ ), and I can only assume this is it. Not sure if any tweaking was necessary.. Any help is greatly appreciated!

As long as you don't have a liquid-cooled MaximX, it should fit fine. Or, at least as well as it would fit on a US spec 700. If you do have a MaximX, you may have issues with the headers interfering with the radiator.

    Where are you located?

Thanks for the reply MaximumX, I'm located in Victoria BC

It is a XJ750XN Maxim-X, water cooled... so it does have a rad, but it looks like in johno8's project he has the rad aswell and it seems to fit. Not sure if he has done any tweaking to get that to work. I've sent him a PM, and I'm hoping in good Canadian style he'll get back to me.

What about the collector at the bottom.. Is this just a function of the stock exhaust only. I'm not sure why but I have it in my head that this is somehow needed.. I guess it is just replaced as the Mac Exhaust is a full system? Maybe this is obvious but I'd appreciate the confirmation..

Is Phil's exhaust the same MAC model? Well then I guess it fits, but definitely get his input. Looking at the picture above, you can see that the top bend in the headpipe looks like it's awfully close to the rad and I've heard from other sources that some aftermarket pipes for an XJ700N will interfere with the rad on the XJ700XN. Even so, I don't imagine it would be all that complicated to shim the rad out a bit if necessary.

As for the collector box, I guess the original exhaust was engineered to function with it and I would hope that the MAC unit is engineered to function as well without it.

And what's up with no pix of your bike?!?!

Hey folks...I bought the same system that you're talking about and as you can see, it fits! There were absolutely no hiccups with installing it on my chopper, and after having ridden it last season, I can assure you it was a seamless switch. It sounds and looks so good, that my good buddy here in Dartmouth who rides a sweet looking stock Maxim-X, replaced his complete system with the same one I have. Neither of us had to rejet and it's good riddance on the collector!! I would suggest buying new studs, stud bolts, and gaskets from our buddy Chacal, as you'll need them because the old stuff will likely break as you remove them. This system is an awesome replacement for one that is not available and is extremely affordable to boot! Hope this answers your questions. If not let me know. Take care.

:) Thanks for the help guys.. Now I have no option but to buy this exhaust. I'll report back with pictures and how it goes..

MaxiumumX: I'll put up a picture soon. I've only had my X for 2 weeks and it isn't quite at show-off status yet.. But of course, its still a beauty in its own right.

Johno8: What did it do to the sound of the bike. I love the stock sound of my seca but I need some new mufflers and I can't find anything aftermarket that seems to fit right.

It increased the rumble a little, but other than that, it was fine. I can only compare the sound difference to that of my buddy's Maxim-X because I had recieved my XJ in boxes!!
