After a run of around 30 miles my oil warning indicator comes on. Not riding it exceptionally hard, motor doesn't leak oil, doesn't seem to blow any smoke. I know it must be coming out from the exhaust but at this rate, I need to carry oil onboard for any decent ride length.
The engine compression is 120psi across all 4 cylinders.
Any comments? Anyone with similar consumption?javascript:emoticon('post',%20'message',%20':(')

Is the oil level actually going down?
At first blush, it sound more like a sensor problem than an actual oil loss scenario. It happens a lot on the oil quantity sensing systems on the C-130's I work on.

Are you filling the oil to the top of the window? you shouldn't eat that much oil. Mine has 42k and doesn't burn any that I can tell. Compression is 140 on all 4.

If you have good even compression on all 4 and it IS eating that much oil, either your breather is plugged up causing massive blow-by or you could have one or more bad valve guide seals. Either way, if it really IS using that much oil, I would think it would also be blowing smoke.

Wow, that would be alot of oil use. I've gone 700+ Km riding at 120km + the whole way and only burn maybe 150ml-200ml. So by the sounds of it your getting blow by on the valve seals.

    Thanks gentlemen for your advice.

I'm inclined to think it may be a faulty sensor / float, as per alaskazzr's post.

The warning light tends to come on when I accelerate really hard, then stays on. Maybe the float is sticking? I'll drain the oil and pull out the sensor. I can't see the oil level through the sight glass.

The whole story is that I would ride, oil warning light would come on, return home and refill. This happened two or three times. As I couldn't see through the sight glass I would guess as to how much oil it needed, topping up with maybe 500 mls. Then one day after a good ride I arrived home and oil flooded from the air cleaner box (oil warning light on). I drained the oil and collected nearly 5 litres. My original post regarding this problem had many members suggesting that a fuel float was stuck and fuel mixed with the oil hence the overflow. This may still be the problem but now warrants further investigation. (Perhaps I couldn't distinguish the oil level in the sight glass because it was already full???) I look forward to solving this one. If anyone has had a similar problem I would be interested to hear from them.
    Cheers,

Trihard better check to see if you over filled your oil . if you did it will eventuall end up in your carbs. I found an engine cleaner for motorcycles that is supposed to clean youe engine real good, it will even get the gunk off the sight glass.
