We're especially interested in LATE 550 owners, especially Seca but Maxim too. If you could post your MODEL year, "shortie" VIN (the model/serial off the top of the motor will do) and DATE OF MANUFACTURE (month/year on the label on the steering head) it could be very revealing and greatly appreciated. For example: "83, 4U8-100960, manuf 5/82" (my bike.)

We are really looking at 550 Seca numbers but 550 Maxim numbers will help too; the LATER the better but really, the more responses the better.
I'd really like to find a later 550 Seca than my '83, and we'd REALLY like to figure out when they were made.

No ulterior motives, this is a "production history" research effort.

If we can garner enough responses to produce some real data I will post the results.

    Thanks in advance---Fitz

Mine is one of the first ones off the line. Manufactured 10/80. Serial # 4U9000109. I believe that makes it the 9th unit produced for the Canadian market. It came stock with a block heater and winter antifreeze.

Wow. My '81 was made in 12/80, it's in the 5xxx (I forget I'm at work it's at home.) Apparently my '83 is the HIGHEST serial number for the 83 MY that chacal has found. Looks like there weren't many 550 Secas made for the 83 model year.

Mine was not too far behind yours on the assembly line 4U9-000193! But located on the other end of the country. I do not have the manufacture date.

now, puttin a block hearter on a bike is dumb, imo, if you need that to start up your bike then you shoudnt be riding, unless you have studs and are riding in a circle..

And it's a "true" 82? What color is it and did it come with a fairing?

Fjpish......could you look again at that VIN decal, and double-check the build date? "0"/82 is not really a good number, since there is no "0" month!
