Wisconsin I paid 23 dollars for 2 years. seeing the prices are going up at next registration I am going to get me hobbist plates for modified motorcycles which will cost me 50 dollars a one time fee. the registration will last forever ,but if I sell the bike i keep the plates and I can put them on the new bike again for a 50 dollar fee which will last forever ans so on .

there are ways as long as your bike is at least 20 years old. check with your state

I forget the exact amount but I believe it was around $15 here in SC. As for the people's republic of new jersey.... its time people stop allowing that sort of outright theft by their government to occur.

I predict a lot of this sort of stuff will change over the next year. Politicians need to be tarred and feathered. If not, we deserve what they do to us.

They doubled the Vehicle License Fee here in California on everything. I have the car and two bikes, and I'm of a mind to say Enough Is Enough.

Unless something happens to change my mind, I do believe that both of the bikes will go on non-op status. Rather than getting more money out of me, the state is going to LOSE money.

Someone didn't think their cunning plan all the way through, methinks.

I just transfered title on a bike and it cost me 34.00 here in MN. At least the PO bought the tab for it or it would have been 58.00 for sure. At least they don't have us do inspections here and get a sticker stuck on the fork like in some states

schmuckaholic, remember what it was like towards the end of the gray davis days? it was worth the trouble to make friends in AZ just so you could register your cars at their address!

btw, $85 here in massachusetts covered tax, title, and new registration.

In oregon it was $20 for 2 years until a few years ago. Now it's $30 for 2 years. Washington(Vancouver is right across the Columbia River) used to charge excise tax every year when you licensed your car. I was behind a lady when she licensed her diesel pusher motorhome and the freaking bill was $5600!!!! You would have to be on crack to license that tub in WA. A family got caught licensing their motorhome in OR instead of WA and the penalties fees, and taxes went over $200,000.

It seemed like it was around $40.00 per year to license the Maxim and about the same for the SilverWing. Py proposition the state no longer charges excise tax. You should have heard the politicians whine while they wringed their hands in despair. So far, from what I can tell, their are still the same numbers of governing bodies in the state and there have been some tough times but no politicians have starved to death since the proposition passed. They would take the excise tax money and fund every little piece of crap idea they could come up with. VERY LITTLE of it actually went to automobile related projects such as roads, roadside rest stops, etc. It is much easier to pay the fees now.

PA puts it on the fork. NJ puts it on the license plate.

What in the holy name of all things Yamaha is a 'wheel tax'? If you remove the wheels would it be cheaper? Or maybe sign an affidavit swearing that you will only ride it on the rear wheel so help you god? This should reduce your wheel tax by half!

flash1259 has the right idea. Unfortunately I still have to wait 2 more years until the bike is 30 years old. One time fee, plate is transferable, etc.

    Collector vehicle plates
    Vehicle requirements
To use collector plates, vehicles must be:

    more than 30 years old.
capable of operating on the highway.
owned and operated as collector vehicles.
Collector vehicles may be driven: to and from auto shows, circuses, parades, displays, special excursions, and antique car club meetings.
    for testing purposes.
for the pleasure of others without compensation.
Collector vehicles may not be used for:

commercial purposes or to carry a load.
regular transportation in the manner of a fully licensed vehicle.
    License plate requirements
    Collector license plates:

may be assigned to currently registered passenger vehicles, motorcycles, or trucks.
are good for the life of vehicle.
are not required to display month/year tab.
    are not renewed annually.
must be displayed on the rear of the vehicle. (You must provide your restored or current license plates. If you provide a set, the collector vehicle plates may be displayed on the front and rear of the vehicle).

Sweet! Would a special excursion be like the Oregon 500 for example? teeheehee!

Pretty much the same constraints but they also have a designation for Horseless Carriage. I think pretty much any thing with that designation would meet the age requirements!
