Ever since I put new a clutch in my 750 Maxim, the clutch still pulls on the engine when I pull in the lever. I'd tried adjusting it, but it seems to get stuck like it's partly engaged when I come to a stop.

    Should I:
    a) continue filing down the inner basket and clutch housing? (I've done this three times now) Maybe forth time is the charm?
    b) Replace the clutch you bought with new plates and disks.
    c) Replace the clutch cable? (Could it be the cable?)

Either way, it's not too bad, but its distracting and annoying when I come to a stop that I have to keep the brakes on and I can't change gear to neutral.

You have the throw arm installed incorrectly if you are maxed out on the cable adjustment and still fighting.
I do not recommend filing the clutch parts if you have already dressed the edges, they shouldn't need more.
Re-examine your clutch arm alignment, I'll bet you are off a notch.

I agree with Robert. If you're filing parts, you might want to replace THOSE parts, not the new clutch you just bought. Was it NEW new or pre-owned?

It may simply be an adjustment issue, try backing the throwout arm up one spline and readjust the cable and see where you are.

Valid points guys - I never thought about that. I'lll re-adjust the cable so that it's all the way in (min adj) and then move the arm back a knotch (or two) and then see if that helps. The clutch cable is 25 years old - probably wouldn't hurt to have a new one.
