I've been wanting to get a test tank so that I did not have to wrestle my tank for various activities. However, I just didn't want to drop a big buck for something that I am going to use occasionally.

So, I happened to be in Lowe's today and went to their lawnmower section. Looky Lou, what do we have here. A flex spout funnel that looks a lot like a test tank with it's hopper and a fuel line kit with an on/off valve along with the fuel line. The diameter of the end of the funnel was a good fit for the line, and I happened to have some marine epoxy lying around to glue it in place and get a good seal.

Bada bing, bada bang, I have a test tank now for $10.

I use a plastic Mtn. Dew bottle with the bottom cut out upside down. It hangs with a wire from the handlebars, or any place that's conveniently close. I have a spicet glued onto the bottle cap with a barbed fitting to clamp a 3 ft. gas line to. I've used it more times than I can recall and it works perfect.

Ideally the temporary tank should be metal & have a screw cap.

Why not use a longer fuel line + xjforever inline fuel filter and put a towel over the frame by the airbox ant set the tank there.

Wow wiz, that is quite a set-up you have built there.

Jim, if I am going to be running the bike for a bit, then I set the tank next to he bike on a B&D Workmate similar to what you do.

I wanted something portable so that I could work on the carbs at a workbench (e.g. float levels) and use with the bike if I so chose. It may not be for everyone, but I am glad to have it now.

Regarding safety, I will probably drill holes near the top so that I can insert a hangar. I only smoke when I am on fire, so as long as I don't fill it to the brim, it should be OK.

If there should be a safety mishap, I'll ask the wife to come running with the camera so that all can see me or whatever else on fire. Since all trips to the hospital inevitably begin with the statement, "Hey, watch this.", I will avoid saying that during use.

I have set the tank on a card table next to the bike, I've also used a push mower gas tank for wet float tests on the work bench. Anything safe will work. Balancing the tank on the frame can lead to dents !!
