I'm wondering if anyone has successfully changed the rear wheel/tyre on an xj 750 1982 ?
Its a bit on the skinny side to be honest and I would quite like to fit a fat rear tyre.

I just swapped the rear wheel for one off of a Maxim, which is a 16". Lower and fatter. I believe you can go a few sizes bibber on the rear as there seems to be enough clearance on the shaft side.

I was thinking more along the lines of an XJ900 rear end ?

I'm not familiar with that rear end, but anything late model has a FAT tire on it that more than likely won't fit between the swing arms on these bikes.

Depending on how far you want to get into this, the problem becomes one of alignment beyond a 150 wide tire. You can carve out the swingarm and re-weld a curved plate over the hole, after that, it's offsetting the rim from "square" just for a fat rear tire. 130 is as wide as the stock set-up goes, even on a 900.
