Nice reminder that a good evaluation of what you are getting into is important.

I am 99% sure this is the same bike I saw for $500 about 2-3 months ago. One of the pics in the first post showed it up on a bike lift being worked on. So, I am guessing the first guy tried to get it going, and realized there were some more serious problems.

It's a shame isn't it. 11K miles and busted to the point where it won't run. Must have been some pretty hard miles.

    What's a timing chain?

    Just kidding.

Yeah, it seems to me that a broken timing chain would be an easy diagnosis; either the guy has no clue or there is something else wrong.

Bike was probably thrashed from the day it rolled out of the showroom.

If the timing chain is broken, you can bet your biscuits there's at least a bent valve or two, to go along with a punctured piston, maybe a bent rod.
The alarms are definitely going off.

Not Craigslist's fault though. I don't think any of us expect "Craig" to personally go inspect each article for sale on "his" site and verify it's value.

As a vehicle for hooking up sellers and buyers, who can then agree to terms, Craigslist is second to none.
    Thumbs up from me.

Of course it isn't the fault of CL, just like it isn't their fault that scum bags are using it to run some of the largest prostitution rings in the country.

There is no way for them to check each ad for criminal activity, but just think about now much of the postings there are for stolen property?

I agree completely that it's not Craiglists' fault. We just need to be savvy buyers.

Craig doesn't give two pickles about whats on "His" site anymore. He sold this site to one of the big players quite a while ago for big bucks.
