It lives in a nice heated room off my garage and stays covered. I recently re-primed my pod filters with K&N oil because they were dry. That helped the way it ran at the time, but now my Seca is mad at me!

I can't ride today, but figured I'd start it up anyway since it hasn't been out of the garage for a week or so.

It won't START. It tries. I hit the starter and I get a little blurble (yes, that is a technical term) out of it. I choked it, it really didn't like that and flooded.

I let it sit for about 45 minutes while I made kids lunch then went back and tried. Again a blurble and nothing. I tried giving just a tiny twist on the throttle again nothing. I even opened the throttle all the way. Just a blurble. Now I have it on the battery charger because I cranked it so much to try to get it started out of frustration.

I think it's not getting any fuel. I don't want to use insta-start on it and get it crack addicted.

Check if your plugs are wet, if you flooded it it's getting gas of course.

Similar thing happened to me a few months ago. Exact same symptoms. Final cause was fuel soaked plugs - put new plugs in and she fired right up.

Hmmmm....how long did it sit? Are you sure the battery had enough juice to fire the plugs AND engage the starter?

I've learned to tell EXACTLY when the spark fades when starting my bike (because of the intense cold), and hook it up to the charger. It burbles like yours when the spark isn't strong enough.

It only sat maybe 10 days. I haven't checked the plugs yet. I have sick kidlets so it may be tomorrow before I can get to the garage again.

My does the same thing with only 7 days or so. I sugest you charge your battery and try again. Do check your plugs though. if not enought fuel then try your choke on slightly .

You said it flooded so this probably won't help but.
If I don't start mine for say 5 days, I have to switch to prime for a few minutes to let the bowls fill then she fires right up.
Make sure to switch it back.

Why do you suppose that is Hound? Obviously you're not leaking fuel or you would have said so. Does it evaporate out some how or is it draining into the cylinders?

I believe it evaporates, I've never had an issue with fuel in the oil.
Went through the carbs last year and the needles seated fine.
I never really thought about it I just know that's what I have to do when it's sat.
I remember real quick when i'm cranking an it doesn't fire after two turns.

    Ok a little update.

I took the battery out, charged it. In the mean time I pulled the plugs. None were wet, they looked kind of a tan color. They were just changed last summer.

I put the battery back in fully charged, again it acts like it wants to start just can't quite get there. My uncle wanted to test his theory and it fired right up with some isnta-start. I let the bike idle to get warm. Shut it off, and it started right up. This morning it went back to blurble-ing.

    Any other suggestions?

Ok...if it starts with starter fluid, and starts easily when warm, then your enrichment circuit sounds like it's plugged up.

Rick-O-Matic has a thread somewhere with detailed instructions on cleaning it out. It doesn't look difficult.

Either that or you still had weak spark, but the starting fluid is more easily combustible, and so the bike started.

You gave it full choke when trying to start it right?

It's a long read but should clear up what's going on.
I'm with sushi on cleaning the enrichment circiut, good news you don't have to pull the carbs.

Ok so I had some time on my hands this weekend because the kids were with the ex.

I took my laptop to the garage and read the post.
I cleaned out the enrichment circuit until the cleaner shot out, like the post said to. There was a a lotta gunk in there. I mean ALOT. The PO had rebuilt the carbs last summer so I really didn't think that was a problem. Just goes to show I shouldn't think :p

Just because I changed the oil and put in new spark plugs.

Put it all back together and started right up second try.

I did it all by myself! And I broke a few nails in the process :(

Problem solved. Now to go check my rear brake! I don't want to skid down the pavement on my butt, even if mine does have a lot of padding.

Isn't independence wonderful? Nails will grow back, but you don't have to rely on a mechanic.

I'm glad you got that sorted.

When diagnosing a no-start condition, don't hesitate to use starting fluid; it's just a diagnosing tool. Fuel, Air, Spark: which are you missing? Air is almost a given. Spark can be checked pretty quickly. Fuel, however, is a little more difficult. Starter fluid makes a nice alternative. And, as you quickly found out, lead you straight to your problem.

Most important post of the year:

Here's the way I look at it (not just on motorcycles, but cars, etc.): unless you actually witness, yourself, in person or via trusted video, the "PO" tearing down a NASCAR engine or an AMA superbike motor HIMSELF, in the pits at Daytona or wherever, and rebuilding the thing by himself during the 1/2-hour time slot between heat races, assume that any such "PO" doesn't know how to rebuild anything properly, at all.

    ANYTHING.

Many are called, but so few are chosen. Even though these carbs (and in general, the entire bike) is pretty basic and simple in design and thus maintenance procedures, it is amazing to witness the level of sloppiness (and laziness) that goes into the repair and upkeep of them, and therefore as soon as someone you don't really know says they "rebuilt" something, well, grab hold of your wallet and start running (not walking, but Running) in the opposite direction......
