    Hey all,
Well I think I need a valve adjustment since I'm sure the PO never did one due to his lack of maintinence, not to mention I can't hear any tappet noise at all, and the bike runs like junk. I don't know how to do one, nor do I have the tools. I know we have a tutorial online but this isn't something I want to jump into without prior experience or having someone who knows what they're doing next to me.

So, Would anyone help me that is near the Madison, Wisconsin area? I'd be willing to throw the bike on the trailer and lug it a little ways, but I don't have the time or money to go trucking too far. Also, I also couldn't afford to pay you too much aside from the beverage of your choice, lunch, etc. Or if you'd like to come to my place, that would work to.

Any parts I can deal with, although I don't know what I'd need. I don't know if I need shims on hand, or can get them from some local place or they need to be ordered beforehand. I'd prefer to get it done all in one day if possible. So, let me know if you're interested! Thank You! :)

jd; take a good look at my photo breakdown, you can do this. http://xjbikes.com/Forums/viewtopic/t=14827.html

The necessary tools are cheap; it WILL be a two-stage process however.

You can pull it apart; check and record clearances and currently installed shims; and put it back together while you wait for shims. Unfortunately, you may discover a couple that are so tight you might want to hold off riding it any more until it's right.

That's where chacal and his lightning-response shipping comes into play.

    Consider it a learning experience.

Thats what I'm looking at...It's not nearly as bad as I thought. Can I get a valve tool from a local place? Napa, Checker, etc?

Nope. chacal, Bike Bandit, JC Whitney, not an "auto parts store" kinda thing.

Pulled the cover, checked the valves, I only need to adjust intake #2 and #3, the rest are all in the specified range so its not as bad as I thought. I've got a local guy here that does a "shim exchange" so I'll be heading to see him on Monday...

Fitz, thanks for the tutorial!! Couldn't have done it without it. Its not nearly as tough as I thought it would be.
