Okay, I think the mechanic that I had work on my bike last year stripped the bolt that hold the oil/oil filter at the bottom of the the bike... I need help getting it off. Any thoughts? Any suggestions?

The only way I got mine off was a pipe wrench, the easy outs I had just shaved off more of the head.

Did you replace it afterwards? And if so, can I get it from a hardware store?

The "bolt" also a pressure valve. You can get one from Chacal (just PM him) or you can fing htem on ebay - don't go to a dealer I paid $50 for it before I found this site.

Any way I used rounded bolt head sockets and an impact driver to get mine loose. Search on oil bolt to find several solutions to this very common problem.

If it doesn't come off the mechanic that worked on it last year way over torqued it! It's only supposed to have 11 ft-lbs on it.

The bypass bolt does not seal at the head, there is an o-ring about 1/4 inch down it that seals to the housing the filter goes in. You can safely hack the head off without worrying about ruining a sealing surface.

Get the aftermarket bolt from Chacal. Not only will you save money but it's got a much bigger head than the 12mm one on the stock bolt.
