Ever since I've had my bike (Seca 750), the throttle cable has too much slack in it. I can twist the grip somewhere between 1/6-1/4 of a turn before I actually engage the throttle.

Ok, so maybe someone put the wrong cable in there at some point. So I bought a set of Seca 750 switch pods from a bike recycler on eBay. The right pod came with the OEM rubber grip and a throttle cable still attached. "Cool" I thought. It looks like this cable was the original for that bike. It's probably the right length.

I installed it and it was too short. It hauls the throttle open even with the twist grip at rest. When compared side-by-side, my original cable is definitely longer by 3/4".

Am I just routing one of these incorrectly or what?

Sushi, check the 'free length' of the cable- the exposed part The length of the sheath isn't really important as long as it reaches from one top to the other (eg the handle bar to the carb bracket). Also remember the throttle cable has an adjuster on it - right at the steel elbow below the grip.

    Hi Ace,

I have indeed, played with the adjusting nut on each cable. On the longer one, I cannot take up enough slack. On the shorter one, I can not introduce enough slack.

When I say one is longer than the other, I am referring to the free length. :)

I would bet any money that neither of them is correct. Do you have the stock handlebars? If so, why not just order the CORRECT cable from chacal and compare it to the other two?

You bring up an interesting point. I'm going to post pictures of my handle bars. They are missing the plastic cover pieces. If I have different handle bars, the cover pieces wouldn't fit the new curves. I honestly don't know if someone swapped in a different set over time.

Could I also have mis-positioned the switch pod and throttle grip out too far on the end of the handle bar?

I have no problem buying the cable from Len but first I want to make sure that a stock cable will fit.

Take a look at this photo-
Based on where the bars protrude next to the headlight, can you tell if they are the stock set?

I personally can't maybe other 750 Seca owners can help.

What you CAN do: Send our buddy chacal a PM and ask him to measure the "free length" of a stock 750 Seca throttle cable for you. You can then compare that measurement to what you have.

chacal worked with me on the same basic issue trying to locate a suitable shorter clutch cable for my 550s when I put lower bars on them. He'll be very helpful but it may take him a day or two to dig thru his stash.
