I have a 1981 XJ750R Seca that is currently undergoing some slight cosmetic surgery. For starters about a year ago my speedo gave up the ghost, so I have recently purchased a Acewell Gauge to replace the original cluster.
Unfortunately, I have run into a few small issues along the way..... I wanted to see if anyone has found a way to properly wire the high beam indicator and the oil indicator so they work as intended. I do have a wiring diagram for the bike, however, I have yet to come up with anything that works successfully. Along with the indicators I may have made a mistake buying the s4 speedo connector for this bike. Has anyone been able to make that work successfully on that generation seca or do I need to call up electrosport and get a s1....the s4 has a threaded end yet all I have on the speedo drive is a brass fitting...

My duel dominator headlights are on their way...I will be sure to post pics soon

Yeah I'm thinking of getting one too, and I'm wondering if the mechanical drive works (and which package to get, because they don't list anything for xj specifically) or if it's better just to get the pickup style.

I have the Acewell on mine with the electronic pickup and although problematic at first, it's working awesome now. I emailed "George" at Acewell about some of my issues and he responded within 1 day with technical drawings and stuff I needed to make my particular issues go away. I mounted the pickup in the wrong angle, and the tach bounced around like crazy. Now the speedo reads perfectly (my setting is 1999 for the wheel I have), and after soldering the tach wire to the coil circuit, the tach would only jump at higher rpms. That problem was solved with new Dyna coils (thanks Chacal). The warning lights all work fine and the gas gauge functions after I modified a Buick fuel sender and installed it in the tank. The only issue I have is with the signal LEDs which are hard to see in the sunlight. I can post pictures of the pickup setup I'm using if you want.

So this will be a direct replacement for the original speedometer cable for an XJ?

You don't need to go with those high priced after market speedos. Just about any metric bike speedometer will work on these bikes (same ratio)There alot of cheaper ones ($40-$50) out there that work just fine. Some of them already have the indicator lights in them. So it's just a matter of hooking up the right wires.
I curently have the speedomter from an older CB350 Honda on mine and it is more accurate than the stock one was. You can make a little panel to hold LED lights for your indicators (high beam, nuetral and signal lights)

The s4 pickup is not a direct fit for the xj750rh seca. Originally the speedo cable has slides over a brass press fitting with a retaining clip that goes around a 10mm bolt. The S4 is designed to thread on which apparently is perfect for the maxim... To remedy my issue i secured the cable with a wire and covered the joint with shrink wrap to keep out dirt. It should be on the road tomorrow so we will see if it holds up...
