Waiting on the delivery of my manual. Started my project with out it.
Had to pull carbs off a 82 650 seca, and put them on a 82 650 maxim.

Are these the same carb setups?

I also want to put the 18" rear seca rim on the maxim,

It looks like it will work but I cant compare via manual.
    Thanks

will bolt right on. carb model and jet sizes are the same. go fer it!

before you bolt them on though... how clean are they? They're a lot easier to clean and bench sync while they're off the bike.

Might I enquire, why the 18" wheel?
Are you trying to go bigger to be like taller gears resulting in lower RPM?

The carbs are semi clean, I did a visual and used carb cleaner on them.
original set are locked up. At this point I just want to see if the engine will turn. Not sure when the bike last ran. Original owner say's last year. From what I have seen it looks more like 2-3 years ago. Charged battery all night, gonna see if it turns over. If it does , I can get it started and see if I can break the clutch free the old fasioned way.

Drat, I knew I would have to answer the question "why" about the 18" tire.
Sometimes in life we find things that are marked "closeout".
Often the price is to good to pass up. Sometimes even though we know better we still buy the discounted item. Often when buying lets say a 120-90-16 tire at a discount price, while recieving a 130-90-18 tire. I have to ask silly questions, and make modifications I had not planned on.
I missed the part when they told me "no refund" or "exchanges" on closeout items.

    thanks

    Oh!

I'd like to know how the bigger tire works out.

    Just curious

Why not just sell the "discounted tire" and stick with the stock size wheel? Just curious.

    Drat!

    "Chen Shin"

    I have 2 bikes I am working with. 82 650 maxim, 82 650 seca.
The maxim has title. The seca does not. Both bikes are in the same condition. It is going to take a bit of work to make one running bike.

I am close to seeing if the maxim will fire.

Both have rear brake issues, both clutch plates are froze, both need rubber.

It wont bother me to do a "frankenstien". I would rather do the brakes while the rubber gets mounted this week, opposed to sell, ship, buy, wait for delivery.

As far as the clutch, I would prefer to try and beat it free by riding before I pull the basket. and to do that I need rubber.

So far Lion, you are doing fine (although the Chen Shin tire is far from a "good" find in my book). Swap away and clean up as you go. You might be able to salvage the seized carbs with a bit of soaking.
