Which bike? All the XJs had a flasher relay and canceler unit. Are both front and rear on but not blinking? Are they the stock bulbs/units (not LED replacements)?

Open up the lens and read the bulb- - it supposed to say 27W. That's 27 Watts on each bulb.
You could get an electric flasher from the parts store,
and Welcome to the site !!

Kingsmurf, you might also examine the bulb sockets for corrosion. I've seen crud keep an otherwise sound system from working.

It may just be a ground issue also. Or try the kill switch (clean or replace) I tried my signals a couple days ago and they wouldn't come on untill I shut off and turned on the kill switch first. I guess it needed to be cleaned, now it works perfect.

how's the battery charge? test the battery voltage with a meter, then take a bulb out and test the voltage at the bulb socket. if it's significatly lower than the direct battery reading, you may have corrosion in the connectors inside the headlight housing or a bad ground.

Just one to replace your (possibly) faulty flasher, and you will lose the "self cancelling" feature.

I had a corroded socket in my right rear blinker. The blinkers would work but they were kind of iffy. Then I added some rear luggage and I had to change my blinkers around and when I plugged everything back in they didn't work. I cleaned everything up and got them to work but they were still not that great. I bought a NOS blinker off ebay and when I installed it the blinkers work perfect and my self-cancelling feature works great! I would listen to Robert's advice on this.

It sounds to me like it's the flasher that's shot. I replaced mine with an electronic flasher (pretty cheap) from an auto store, because I had LED turn signals on the rear of the bike. I figured I wouldn't have the correct amount of resistance to trigger the mechanical flasher with the LEDs.
