Cape Breton Bike Rally!

I just found out about a long weekend bike rally taking place in Cape Breton/Cabot Trail area.Here's the link to the website.

Cape Breton is beautiful place. If it was not so far away I'd be there.

We're going to Perks for a while tomorrow night...if any of you folks go there, maybe we should see who all wants to go and plan a group ride.

I'm going to be around all summer... and if anyone wants to play mechanic in the drive way swing on by. May 28-29 I'll be prepping my bike for the track, and 30-31 I'll be at AMP learning how to go faster

Likely be there around 6pm. We'll meet up sometime this summer for sure and see what's gonna happen. Sounds like you're into serious speed.

 

Only in controlled environments... I just like to tour/long distance tour outside of that.

That sounds like a blast. I'll have to see what my sailing schedule will be like, but Looks like a blast. The wife is from the island anyway, so it would be an easy sell. The Cabot Trail is perfect for bikes, lots of twists and turns. We should all try to meet up this summer anyway, seeing we live pretty close.

I'm planning on going in around noonish on Sat. Buddy of mine is here from BC, so I promised him we'll go. I'm taking my 10 yr old with me, he's finally starting to get a little more interested in the bike scene, should be good.

I thought this deserved a bump as it gets a little closer.I'll be heading up the morning of Fri. July 31.
Also,where do you Halifax/Dartmouth/Sackville XJers hang out? I've been to Tim Hortons in Fall River a couple of times,but it's been strictly Harleys and crotch rockets there.Where is this Perks I've heard mentioned a few times?

I go mainly to Tim's in Fall River as I find Perks just a little too crowded. Besides, the "Hardley Boys" that hang out there in their own little group scoff at any other bike but their brand just drive me nuts. At least in Fall River just about everybody talks to everybody else regardless of your ride, and on a good night, there's upwards to 100 bikes there. I still go to Perks once in a blue moon as there are a few good folks there, but just a few. Oh yeah, Perks is on the Halifax side at the Ferry Terminal and you can't miss the bikes all parked in the little roundabout in front of Theodore Tugboat. We've probably met in Fall River, but if not, I'll keep my eye open for ya...even get you a Tim's if ya want!

 

I guess I haven't been there on the right nights.The couple of times I've been there I felt like I stuck out like a sore thumb on my not quite showroom beautiful 80's bike.I'll keep my eyes open for you as well.I live on Beaverbank Road,so getting there is more than half the fun going out through Windsor Junction.

 

I'm pretty sure we've met once in Fall River...early in the year. It doesn't matter to me what your bike looks like, as long as it's safe and you like it! The riding and friendship is what it's all about for me....and the coffee too!

 

Yet another bump coming up to the Cape Breton Bike meet.I think I'm going to head up on Thurs. taking a longer scenic route.I hope to see some of you guys there.

John- I haven't been out to Tims in a while--been busy with getting ready to sell our house and physio on a bad knee,but I hope to get out soon.I'm on vacation all next week so I'll be taking some time to get the bike ready for the road trip.Maybe I'll get in some test rides

 

So how many people on this site are from NS, it seems like there is actually a good number of us? I'm actually a bit surprised as I haven't seen too many of the xj's on the road but I guess just about every person that has an xj (at least in NS where we're smart like that=p) is a member of this site.

 

Lorne317 - Looks like I'm SOL on CapeBreton...family visitations happening with some long lost Cajun Cousins. Hopefully we'll see ya around town.

Fore4runner - there seem to be a few of us around here, but actually meeting up appears to be the issue. Should try to coordinate something so we can all meet each other. Suggestions?

 

If you do plan on meeting up - PM me - I'm in... bike is on the street until Friday when it might be back on the track... then August the inlaws are in town so a bike night will be more plausible

 

Seems to me we just need to pick a night and pick a place.

 

It'll never happen unless we pick a time/place... what's the weekend looking like?

Well my bike let me down for the first time on the way to this bike meet that I had been looking forward to for months.To make a long story short,I ended up on the side of the road just past New Glasgow for an hour and 1/2 ( while endless Harley riders blew past by the way) with no spark.The bike is now at Ramsay's Cycle in Sydney awaiting word on just what the #%&* went wrong.

 

That's no fun... :-/

Why Sydney? Too bad it wasn't down here we could take it apart

 

My dad ended up picking it up for me in New Glasgow and took it to his place in Port Hawkesbury.He was going to Sydney anyway so I thought it would be easier to take it there than to get him to drive it all the way back here.It turns out that Ramsay's Cycle " Doesn't touch bikes that old" so I'm still trying to figure out what to do with it.I bet if it was an '83 Harley they'd be more than happy to sell me overpriced parts :x

 

Oh that ROTS... I'm not going as far as that with my trailer unfortunately otherwise I'd grab it for you...
