We all know that spring is a time of renewal. Well, waiting for parts the other day, I was taken by a new machine I have no business lusting after. I do not like sport bikes and cruisers are OK but not quite there. Sport touring machines are the closest new bikes in spirit to my Maxim with bags and trunk.

This glossy black Kawasaki ZG14 Concours left me breathless. So did the price so there is no change in the near future for me. But man, what a machine. The only disappointment was that it was not a Yamaha.

I wouldn't mind a sport touring bike, but I don't think more dough will buy any more excitement or fun. Maybe, one day I'll come across one at the right price.

I think the worst thing both kawi and honda did was to increase the size of the motors on there sport tourer. That 1400 conny is WAY overpowered. I have owned both bikes in there less powerful cofiguration and have ridden both in their presentconfiguation. The old ones were much better balance and had usable power and good fuel economy. They have thrown all that away in my opinion

plus one on the sport touring but I like the slightly smaller ones the suzuki bandit 1250s is the the one Im most liking right now but Im also really feeling the trumph sprint st 1050, The yam fzr1 (I think) is really nice but sports the gen 3 R1 engine and requires high rpm to generate any decent power where as the bandit's peak power is around 4000 rpm meaning more passy less shifty and im all about easy!!

Since you guys are already into old bikes and thinking sport tourers I encourage you to keep an eye out for a deal on an 86-93 Venture.

Once you upgrade the fuse panel and stator connector (Yep, Yamaha used the same ones on everything!) they are fun machines.

Am I missing something about the FJR1300 that puts it in a different category from the new Connie?

I have had my eyes set on a BMW F800ST for a while also the Guzzi Norge but we are still talking big bucks for both those bikes. Not to mention the maintenance costs.

I love my 750 Seca but I am saving my money for an FJR 1300. I fell in love with it the first time I saw one and have not been able to get it off my mind.

The Big Thing with these new bikes, according to the folks at the Kawi dealership, is the handling. The new Concours14 will put my old Maxim to shame I am told. Since I have no way to compare these supposed differences, I am asking you folks out there that have more sales-friendly dealers for information. Are these new sport touring machines that much better than ours?

And by the way, I can hardly sleep with this new ZG14 on my mind. It's all I can think about. While I still love the Maxim and enjoy every minute on it, there is this little Concours thread that won't let go......

Question is, is it the bike, or the gorgeous blonde in the pics all over the 'net? Gotta be the bike...yeah, that's it.

and to think the honda PC800 was considered too dressed to be a sport bike but not dressed enough to be a touring bike...

i like the one Chelsea Field rode in Harley Davidson and the Marlboro Man (Don Johnson and Mickey Rourke). heck i like Chelsea Field!

I know the frustration of the waiting game. I am going to invest in a BMW K1200LT next week sometime. I have to wait until the 18th to sell stock to avoid capital gains, then it takes 3 days for the broker to pay out and in the meantime? Every BMW snapper upper out there is looking at MY bikes on the web.

Meanwhile, all I have are those dreams in my head (and little drops of spittle at the corners of my mouth) as I dream of riding the 750 + pound monster through the twisties. And letting it lift itself with me and my pillion pass gracefully off the ground and onto its' fine German crafted center stand. And the IronButt 1000 blissfully falling into my hands with no pressure ulcers on my keester due to the seat. Aaaahhhhh.

As for my Maxim? She aint goin' nowhere! I still need something to get around town on that doesn' weigh over 1/2 ton when fully gassed and loaded for the road. The Maxim is just too much of a rush to let go of. I will miss my SilverWing. (Sniff). Also, I need something to turn wrenches on while Gunter is tearing into my Beemer at the tune of $100/hr.

    Good night Gracie!

I want the blue one I want the blue one I want the blue one............ Yawn
