buggered the screw

    i was trying to get the master cylinder cover off and i stripped the screw head , you guys have any ideas how to get it out , i tried puttin a little heat to the thing before i stripped the darn thing.

    how bad did you strip the head? did you polish it out? they make a removal tool if its only a little stripped... other wise your looking at carefully drilling the head out... the using vise grips to get the stud.

    If it's not too bad, you can put just a spot of lapping compound on the screw head to hold your screwdriver in the slots more securely. It worked for me on a few screws that I bunged up a bit while attempting to remove them.

    Pic, I had the same problem on my 650. Finally had to use a small punch & hammer, tapped it till it finally came loose.

    Lapping compound is a kind of metal infused tooth paste used on your valves when trying to re-new the valve seat & valve surfaces. It comes in a small travel size tooth paste type tube for about $3.00 at any local auto parts dealer. It will give your driver better purchase on a stripped screw.

    Space it tight on those. If you can finagle enough room, I would try to cut slots in it and use a flat head screw driver before moving to drilling and an easyout.

    I've had some success in the past using the punch/chisel technique mentioned above too.
