Kingsmurf; Please add your bike info (year, model, mileage) to your signature, it will really help a lot so we don't have to ask and you don't have to do a lot of repeated typing.

Without the above info your question has TOO many possible answers, everything from clutch wear to transmission problems to the wrong type/weight oil or just simple gumminess.

More data required for intelligent answer.

With how many miles on it? Did you just get it or have you had it for a while?

Golly I love "20 questions." Are those "kliks" or miles? The first step would be to disassemble the clutch, clean everything, inspect and measure plate thickness, etc., and go from there. Kilometers or miles, 42K is a lot and it would be nothing short of a miracle if that were the original clutch. If it IS the original clutch you need a new one.

Have you changed the oil? If yes, what did you use? If not, do so right away. Use 10W40 or 20W50 real oil, if from the auto parts be sure it's not "energy saving."

can you stop the bike with it in gear and not stall it? IF so than it is working somewhat. You can adjust the cable in two locations to get you by (You will need to properly adjust after you disassemble, clean or replace the clutch plates anyway. Either byt the two 12mm nuts on the Engine side of the cable or up at the perch. For a quick adjustment use the one on the perch. Loosend the big lock ring and give it 1/2 to 1 full turn out (I think) and see if it is better is so adjust a bit more if worse go the other way. It is a trail and error thing noone can tell you 2 and 3/8 of a turn will do it for everybike. It could also be that if the bike sat for awhile the plates are simple stuck together. a good cleaning can take care of that sometimes.
