    Please observe Exhibit A: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/XJ-750-R ... ccessories

This guy is parting out a GORGEOUS, INTACT, FULLY FUNCTIONAL XJ 750 Seca. This is not a junker. This bike is beautiful. I'd like to choke some sense into this guy. :x

$400 for CARBS?!?!? Come ON! I paid $25.00 for carbs that are GREAT. I'm sorry for yelling but this one really takes the cake.

Unfortunately the bike will probably sell for a LOT more in parts than a complete bike would sell for.

The fact that he hasn't torn it completely apart yet probably means that he is just fishing for buyers to see if he can make any money parting it out.

I agree with you that it is "poor carma" with the XJ gods...but also consider how many other XJs might stay on the road or look a lot better with some organ transplantation.

if he has no title, it's not worth a whole lot more than what he wants for the carbs

That does look like a nice bike. I would send the guy an email and snatch up any parts someone might need.

Not sure if the price he wants for the parts is worth it. Way better deals elsewhere.

what an absolute shame. That bike is about 3 hours from me too. Half a mind to throw him an e mail and see if he'll sell it whole...

-edit-I just e mailed him asking if he would sell it whole, if it had a title and what he would take for it. Too nice of a bike to hack up.

He lists the frame as being for sale "with papers" which suggests that he has title ...

Engine could be blown - he does not say the bike/engine is in running condition.

Shame to part out a beautiful bike like that but - point is it's his bike he can do what he wants same as those who chose to customize while I chose to restore to stock.

Be great to see it rescued vs parted out.

It's not an '81 , not that it matters much. There's a side cover going for $77 as of yesterday, so it could part out for alot of money.
I wonder what the complete exhaust goes for? $500 ?

I understand that the bikes aren't that collectable, but aren't they getting rare after nearly 30 years? How many out of the original production numbers are still left?

This may be my DeLorean paranoia kicking in. There's fewer than 6,000 specimens left in the world and a significant portion of those are probably non-runners.

He seems like a nice guy. He's gonna lower the price of the carbs. I told him that 100 bucks tops for a set in pristine condition :D lets see what happens. I've love a back up set. He's already sold the exhuast

Hang on home-skillet. Are you sure that 750 exhaust will bolt right up to a 700? Especially from a Seca to your Maxim style bike? You are aware that the carb jets in a 750 are not the same as your 700 right?

The carb bodies might very well be the same, but the jets will surely be different. Go to Chacal's parts catalog and look up 750 Seca and then your bike and compare the manufacturer and jet sizes.

got an e mail back from him. he said he didn't have the time or cash to get it on the road. I said there were a bunch of us cringing at that thing being parted out. The bike does fire. It has a title. I asked what he would've taken for it too. Its ashame, that thing is very nice

"get it on the road"??? If he feels that the carbs are so perfect that they're worth 400 bones, then the bike was road-worthy before he ever touched it.

Being rare doesn't mean they are desirable. XJ's were considered to be the "Plain Jane" of the motorcycling world in their time. Sure they were competent, reliable and easy to ride, but they didn't push any boundaries as far as performance and technology were concerned - and in the fickle world of motorcycling, they're the things that people remember.....or don't remember....

Just emailed that guy I told that guy its not worth 4500 and why would someone pay that kind of money for a bike hardly worth 900 when they can get a newer HD sportster for the same price.

The 550 maxim for $4500 is kinda funny. The ad says "very low mileage" and "engine rebuilt in 2006". Is it just me or do low mileage bikes not usually need rebuilds unless they are abused severely?
