Unfortunately I just broke a carb on my 85 750X, and luckily I found some one with a spare body to send me, so all i have to do is replace the guts.

I had a few others offer me carbs, and seen some online, they were out of 650's from 82 or 83, wasn't sure if they would fit.

SO my topic is ... what makes a carburetor a carburetor and what years and models are compatible ? eg. will carbs from a 83 yamaha 650 fit a 85 750X, with different guts, but not to complicated like shimming jets and all that stuff. Just different jets or pilots or what ever it is thats in a carb

I believe the carbs from '80 -'83 650's and 750's are similar except for jet sizes.

That's how I've always understood it too - The bodies are the same but the jets differ. I think the midnights even had different jets between 1&4 and 2&3

i was informed today that only the 700's and 750's from 85-86 will work with each other for that type of bike.
