Well, I got the fork oil changed without any problems. YAY!!

I do have one question though. The old fork oil was red, the stuff I put in was a blue-green. The stuff I put in was 10wt fork oil. Was the old stuff heavier or something all together different?

    thanks,
    mikeg

    Mikeg,

My guess is the red fluid was probably synthetic. I know Red Line uses different color codes for their fork oil, and 10 wt happens to be red, but I don't know if that's standard.

Some folks use automatic transmission fluid for fork oil...

Old Style Damper Rods forks (these ones  "should" be filled with ATF imo. And not just ANY atf but Mobil 1 ATF (and only Mobil 1 atf) is THE single best improvement one could possibly make to these old forks (assuming they are /were recently rebuilt and in excellent health)..IF ..one is after a palpable performance improvement. Interestingly the Mobil is 'alegedly' 7.5 W. But in the measurements/tests used for shock loadings it's roughly equivalent to a V good brand of 20w "fork" oil. Well worth dumping Whatever you just poured in .
    Enjoy :D

I'm sorry Danilo, could you say that again in english. Sounded like you said we should put on old style damper rods for our forks.

I just rebuilt mine this weekend too. The new fluid I used was also green (Bel-Ray 15W IIRC) but I was using an old bottle of a different brand, same weight, as "assembly lube" (rather than dipping my finger in the brand new stuff) and it was red. I think it's just a case of different brands.
